President Trump’s nationwide crime crackdown has hit another obstacle. On Friday, a federal judge effectively permanently blocked the President’s deployment of of National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon.

A federal judge on Friday ruled that the Trump administration’s attempt to deploy National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon, was unconstitutional.
On Sunday, U.S. District Court Judge Karin Immergut, a Trump appointee, temporarily extended an order blocking the administration from deploying troops to The Rose City, saying the government had failed to justify the move.

Friday’s 106-page ruling makes the order permanent.
Fox notes that this ruling follows a three-day trial over whether protests and riots outside of the ICE building in Portland warranted the deployment of the National Guard. While the Trump administration said the troops were necessary to protect federal personnel and property, Immergut disagreed.
Immergut concluded that President Trump “did not have lawful basis to federalize the National Guard.” She wrote that his order violated the 10th Amendment, “which ‘reserves to the States’ any powers not expressly delegated to the federal government in the Constitution.”
Though the block on deployment is effectively permanent, the administration can appeal the decision. Fox notes that President Trump has ran into similar trouble elsewhere as well, as a different judge also blocked the deployment of National Guard troops to Chicago.
