“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Colossians 3:23 (NIV)

There’s something unforgettable about people who go the extra mile. One story sticks with me: I bought a suit and needed it for a trip the next day. The store promised it would be ready in 24 hours. Something went wrong, but the salesman didn’t panic. He personally ensured the suit arrived at my hotel, perfectly pressed, and even threw in a free shirt and two ties. That was 20 years ago, and I still remember him. Why? Because he was an “and then some” person—someone who did more than expected, without being asked, without seeking reward.

This principle is spiritual as much as it is practical. Rebekah, in Genesis 24, gave water to the servant and then watered all ten of his camels. She didn’t do it for recognition or reward; she did it because that was who she was. Christians are called to live that way—beyond the minimum, beyond the expected, consistently. That’s where excellence, loyalty, and influence are built.

Think about your own life. Maybe you’re a roofer or a mechanic, or maybe you’re in an office. Doing what’s expected is the baseline. But when you notice a little extra need and meet it, without billing for it or seeking praise, people notice. Word spreads. Opportunities grow. That extra effort creates extra blessing because God honors faithfulness and diligence, especially when no one else is watching.

This principle doesn’t stop at work. It applies to marriage, parenting, school, and ministry. What if extra effort became your habit at home? What if a husband came home to a clean house, not because it was required, but because love moved him to do “and then some”? Extra effort leads to extra reward, in every area of life.

Choose today to live an “and then some” lifestyle. Don’t settle for average.

Work diligently, love generously, and serve faithfully even when no one is watching. God sees your faithfulness, and He rewards those who exceed expectations.

Prayer: Lord, help me to live beyond the minimum. Teach me to go the extra mile in everything I do, to work with excellence, and to serve with a heart like Yours. Let my life reflect Your glory and draw blessing through my faithful efforts. Amen.
