    “And Then Some” Gratitude

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” (Psalm 107:1 NIV)

Sometimes it takes a wake-up call to remind us just how blessed we are. A college student once wrote home to her parents, creating a shocking story. She told them about riots, hospitalization, and dropping out of school—only to reveal at the end that none of it was true. She had simply failed her chemistry class and wanted them to keep things in perspective. The point was clear: things could always be worse, and gratitude changes everything.

Gratitude often shines brightest in the moments we fear losing something. Think of the relief when the doctor calls with good news after days of worry. In that instant, your heart overflows with thankfulness. Nothing in your circumstances has changed, but your perspective has. Even people who don’t believe in God will instinctively say, “Thank God.” That’s because gratitude and anxiety are deeply connected. When we lose sight of how good God has been, we become anxious. When we remember His faithfulness, peace returns.

Too many of us wait for tragedy before we appreciate what we already have. We take people, health, and blessings for granted. But every day is a gift. The breath in your lungs, the people you love, the opportunities before you—all of it flows from a God who gives not just enough, but more than enough.

He is an “And Then Some” God. When Jesus was beaten and crucified, He loved you “and then some.”

When Jesus carried the cross up Calvary’s hill and took your place, He loved you “and then some.”

When He rose from the grave and promised eternal life, He gave you blessings not only for this world but for eternity—mansions, joy, peace, and life with Him forever.

What does that kind of love deserve from us? Not average worship. Not halfway devotion. He deserves our whole heart. Scripture says, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might.” God is worthy of “and then some” praise. He is worthy of worship that overflows from gratitude, service that exceeds expectation, and love that reflects His abundance.

Don’t wait for loss to make you grateful. Choose to praise God today, right where you are. Let your gratitude spark passion again in your heart. Ask Him for a fresh anointing, a renewed love, and a deeper awareness of His presence. You are saved—and then some. Filled—and then some. Loved—beyond measure.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for loving me “and then some.” Help me never to take Your goodness for granted. Give me a grateful heart and a renewed passion to serve You with all that I am. Let my praise rise from gratitude and overflow with joy. Amen.
