Women teaching women God’s Word. If you’ve ever participated in this kind of study group, you know how special and unique it is. There’s a precious camaraderie and connection formed as women gather around the Word of God.
Yet it’s so easy to feel ill equipped and inadequate in this area of teaching ministry. What if a situation or question arises that I am not prepared to handle or answer? Who am I to lead others in the study of God’s Word? There must be others far more knowledgeable than me. Satan loves to attack us and our faith by plaguing us with these thoughts. Nerves, fear, and self-doubt get in the way of our desire to serve, to lead, and to teach.
Maybe you identify with Moses and his excuses when given the instruction to save God’s people from the hands of the Egyptians: “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11). “What if they do not believe me or listen to me?” (Exodus 4:1). “[Lord,] I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue” (Exodus 4:10).
What Moses found, however, is that we are not on our own. God and his Holy Spirit are within us, guiding us, and speaking through us in his Word. Because by the Spirit we have “accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you” (1 Thessalonians 2:13).
The Church is a living organism of parts that function differently yet are equal, and these parts work for Christ, the church’s head. Our congregations are full of believers—half of which are women like you—looking to serve and share the gospel with other women. They are women who are equipped to serve but have the same fears or lack of confidence that you might experience.
Maybe you’re currently teaching a Bible study and are looking for fresh ideas, or maybe you have always wanted to lead a Bible study but have so many unanswered questions.
