2025 has flown by, and 2026 is already on the horizon. The new year will bring more election chaos as candidates across the country prepare for the critically important midterms. But, as news pundits and journalists all vie for your attention, which races should you be watching?

Become a Monthly Ministry Partner today.

    From the Daily Wire:

The 2026 midterms are about as high-stakes as elections can be.

Thirty-five Senate seats are up for grabs next November, as are all 435 House seats. Republicans currently hold slim majorities in both houses of Congress — one that could get even slimmer with the coming resignation of Marjorie Taylor Greene. The results of the elections could shape the final two years of President Donald Trump’s time in the White House. The midterms will also loom over the 2028 presidential election, particularly for Democrats, who do not have an obvious candidate waiting in the wings.

We’re still a ways out, but many of the most crucial races are already heating up. Here are [a few] races to keep an eye on.

In Texas, state Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched a primary challenge against Senator John Cornyn, accusing the incumbent lawmaker of being “too establishment,” according to the Daily Wire. Whoever wins the primary race will battle for Senator Cornyn’s seat against either Colin Allred, a former congressman, or State Representative James Talarico.

Republican Senator Susan Collins is also being challenged in Maine, although her primary concern is a Democrat, not a fellow Republican. Graham Platner, a populist Democrat, is vying for Senator Collins’ seat, although numerous scandals have hurt his campaign and led to high turnover among his staff. The Daily Wire notes that “a recent poll found that voters favor Collins the more they learn about Platner.”

Meanwhile, another Senate race in Michigan is currently underway, with Representative Haley Stevens, state Senator Mallory McMorrow, and Abdul El-Sayed each embracing more and more radical positions to outflank their competitors on the left. Whoever emerges victorious will face off against Mike Rogers, a former congressman endorsed by President Trump.

In Ohio, former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown is running against Republican Senator Jon Husted, the lawmaker chosen to replace Vice President JD Vance in the upper chamber following last year’s election. The Daily Wire notes that Brown faced controversy and accusations of hypocrisy during his stint in the Senate, all of which may come back to bite him in November.

Every House seat is up for grabs next year, but perhaps the most interesting race in the nation is in California. Longtime Democratic Representative Nancy Pelosi is stepping down, and she’s expressed a desire to see San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan replace her. However, state Senator Scott Wiener seems much more likely to replace her at this time. Senator Wiener, however, is one of the most radical lawmakers in the state, pushing for legalized prostitution and pedophilia. He’s so radical, in fact, that the Daily Wire even published an article dedicated to exposed his most far-left beliefs.

Lastly, Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff will be defending his seat representing Georgia in the upper chamber. His Republican challenger has not yet been chosen, but he will likely face off against either Representative Mike Collins, Representative Buddy Carter, or football coach Derek Dooley. What’s most interesting about this race, however, is how expensive it is. The Daily Wire notes that Senator Ossoff has $21 million in cash on hand, and Republican donors are already pouring in millions for their preferred candidates.

These are just a few of the races to watch, but every election promises to be exciting. This year’s redistricting wars have shaken up the nation in advance of the midterms, and Republicans in both chambers can only afford to lost a handful of seats if they want to keep their fragile majorities. As the nation prepares for election season to start in earnest, let’s pray!
