    Seek God First

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33 NKJV)

There is something deeply freeing about the words of Jesus in Matthew 6. He does not offer a complicated formula for peace. He gives a simple invitation. Put God first. When you do, worry loses its grip on your heart.

Jesus speaks directly to the places where fear loves to live. Provision. Security. The future. Three different times in this chapter He says the same thing. Do not worry. That repetition matters. It tells you how much God knows your tendency to carry burdens you were never meant to hold. When you seek Him first, He already knows where you are, what you need, and what you are facing.

Seeking first does not mean living carelessly. It means living confidently. It means releasing people, problems, finances, and outcomes into God’s hands and trusting Him to handle them His way. He calls Himself a good Father, and good fathers take care of their children. You do not have to earn His attention through anxiety. Worry is not proof of responsibility. Trust is.

Jesus then tells two powerful stories to explain what seeking first really looks like. One man finds a treasure hidden in a field. Another finds a pearl of great value. Both men do the same thing. They sell everything else to obtain what matters most. The message is clear. The kingdom of God is not an accessory to life. It is the center of it. Jesus Himself is the treasure. He is the pearl of great price.

God did not call us to casual faith; He wants wholehearted devotion. Jesus is worth more than comfort, more than success, and more than control.

When Jesus becomes your greatest treasure, everything else finds its proper place.

Careers, dreams, relationships, and resources stop competing with God and start flowing from Him. When you seek first the kingdom, God does more than meet your needs. He gives vision. He awakens dreams. He opens your eyes to possibilities that were already there but unseen. Vision does not create opportunity. It reveals it. God has a way of speaking in moments of worship, quiet obedience, and in surrendered hearts. He knows exactly who He can trust with insight and influence.

God knows what He is doing in your life. When you put Him first, you do not lose anything that truly matters. You gain clarity, peace, and direction. All these things really are added when Jesus is first.

Prayer: Lord, help me seek You above everything else. Teach my heart to trust You instead of worrying. Open my eyes to see Your kingdom clearly and give me the courage to value You as my greatest treasure. I choose You first, today and always. Amen.
