Last week, the day after Christmas, citizen journalist Nick Shirley exposed the depth of fraud in Minnesota, exposing daycares and learning centers receiving millions from taxpayers despite showing no signs of operational activity. Now, FBI Director Kash Patel has confirmed the fraud is a “top priority.”

FBI Director Kash Patel recognized the ongoing fraud scandal unfolding in Minnesota involving childcare centers, adding that it has been part of a lengthy investigation and will remain a top priority.

In a post on X, Kash Patel said the FBI has been investigating the situation.
“The FBI is aware of recent social media reports in Minnesota. However, even before the public conversation escalated online, the FBI had surged personnel and investigative resources to Minnesota to dismantle large-scale fraud schemes exploiting federal programs. Fraud that steals from taxpayers and robs vulnerable children will remain a top FBI priority in Minnesota and nationwide,” he said.
Fraud is sadly not new in Minnesota. Many have been focused on corruption following the September release of a report showing that Somali fraudsters in the state have stolen billions, even sending some taxpayer funds to overseas terrorists. Shirley’s exposé, however, highlights just how big the problem is. As he mentions in the beginning of the video, Somali fraudsters, through daycare, meal centers, and other schemes, have stolen enough money to almost match the entire GDP of Somalia.
It is also impossible to ignore the fact that the state’s large Somali migrant community is implicated in the scandal. President Trump responded to the revelation of fraud by ending deportation protections for Somalis and sending ICE into Minneapolis. Some have also sought to question Representative Ilhan Omar, a Somali migrant herself representing Minnesota’s 5th district.
As the fraud continues to snowball in Minnesota, more information has come our that paints Representative Omar in a bad light. The progressive lawmaker was reportedly penniless when she took office in 2019, only to see her assets skyrocket to anywhere between $6 million and $30 million today, according to the New York Post. Meanwhile, Representative Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett recently scrubbed names from the website of Rose Lake Capital, his venture capital management firm, while federal prosecutors were announcing charges against those responsible for the fraud in Minnesota. To make matters worse, Rose Lake Capital was founded in 2022, shortly after many of these fraud schemes began, and its reported value ballooned from nearly zero in 2024 to up to $25 million the following year.
An enormous amount of fraud has already been exposed, but this is still so much more that needs to be done. Let’s pray for the full truth to be revealed, and for those responsible for this fraud to be held accountable!
