“The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:6

There was once a pastor who decided to do a three-day fast. God convicted him that in addition to abstaining from food, he was to stop talking! He had been going through many challenges, and his life had become extremely negative. So, for three days, he did not utter a word. He avoided being around anyone and did not even answer the phone. On the third day, he ended his fast. To his surprise, the very first words that came out of his mouth were words of praise as tears of gratitude flowed down his face. He said, “God turned my tongue from bitter to sweet.”

There are too many negative Christians in this world. Negative people don’t do great things with their lives. If you were asked if you remember the names of the two spies in the Old Testament who had a positive report, you probably would know they were Joshua and Caleb. Many people have named their children after these men because people admire others who do positive things. You likely could not name one of the ten spies that came back and reported that the enemy was like “grasshoppers” because no one would want to be like these men.

God is pleased when we keep an attitude of faith and positivity. He is not pleased with a fearful and negative mindset. We see this in Exodus 4:10-12. Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” Then Moses begged God to send someone else, and the scriptures said, “Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses.” Being negative does not please God.

David was a positive man. When he saw Goliath, he did not see a menacing warrior bigger than him; he just saw an easy target. He basically said, “If I can kill lions and bears with my slingshot, I can’t miss a target this big and slow.” When you are positive, you will stand out in life. You will attract great people and unlikely opportunities. You will show God that you can be trusted with great things because you have the mentality of a winner.
