Your Relationship With God Doesn’t Have To Look Like Everyone Else’s
    HOSANNA WONG

    Lee en español

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

Hi, my name is Hosanna, and I used to feel like I was failing at my faith. I saw how other people spent time with God, and I thought, I just can’t connect with Him the way they do.

Can you relate to any of these thoughts?

I’m not in the right season.
I don’t have the right personality.
I’m too busy. I’m too distracted.
I have too much shame. I’m hurting too much.
I can’t hear from God. I can’t live up to anyone’s expectations, including my own.

But it turns out that many of the expectations we put on ourselves do not come from God.

Your relationship with God doesn’t have to look like everyone else’s. And it doesn’t have to look like it did years ago.

Why would God create us differently, wonderfully, and uniquely if He wanted us all to connect with Him in the exact same ways? We read in Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

    Here’s the truth:

    1. God created you to have a relationship with Him and do good works.
    2. God handcrafted the details of who you are, and He loves those details.
    3. God thought all your details were important for knowing Him, loving Him, loving others, and living a purposeful life.

Friend, there isn’t just one way to enjoy God. He designed your unique personality, placed you in a specific season, and delights in meeting you right where you are. The only way to have a real relationship with God is in the middle of your real life.

This is good news for the introverts, the extroverts, the spontaneous spirits, and the planners. For students, parents, and those caring for aging parents.

Maybe you enjoy God best in the morning. But maybe it’s at night.
Maybe it’s in the car on your commute.
Maybe it’s in nature, creative work, serving others, or being still.
Maybe it’s folding laundry and praying for each kid as you cradle their clothes.
Maybe it’s reading God’s Word in a new translation or doing a devotional with friends.

When I let go of my guilt, shame, and unrealistic expectations and started meeting God in the ways He’s wonderfully wired me, my relationship with Him became more real. It wasn’t complicated anymore. It was still obedient, surrendered, and sacrificial — but also simple, joyful, and personal.

This week, I invite you to uncomplicate your relationship with God. Invite Him into your season, your schedule, and your personality. Search for Him, and you will find Him.

You can exhale. You have permission to enjoy God in your unique way.

God, thank You for making me wonderfully and uniquely. Thank You that I don’t have to perform, pretend, or earn Your love. Help me embrace the way You’ve wired me, drop the comparisons, and enjoy You in my real life. I invite You to where I really am. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
