A Peace That Endures
One of three children, Matthew was raised in the beautiful Maryland countryside. “My grandmother and mother were both nurses and strong in the Christian faith,” he shares.
Growing up, Matthew attended Sunday-keeping churches. But one day, while watching TV, a program caught his attention.
“I found out that the Ten Commandments my church observed had been changed from the original,” he explains. Shocked he’d never heard this before, Matthew wondered what else might have been changed.
And thanks to your loving gifts, he found the Bible truth he was longing for.
Inspired to Study
Searching for truth, Matthew soon found an Amazing Facts TV program on the History Channel—a program you helped put on the air just when he needed it.
As Pastor Doug Batchelor taught the Word of God, Matthew felt the Spirit move on his heart. After completing two Amazing Facts Bible study courses online, he was baptized into Christ at a local Sabbath-keeping church.
But soon after his baptism, Matthew’s faith was severely tested …
Through the Valley
Matthew’s mother, who had contracted COVID over the Christmas season, was dying and needed hospice care that he and his sister would provide until the end.
One night, Matthew knew his mother was failing; she was on morphine and unresponsive. He and his sister were exhausted.
When he heard his sister moving about downstairs in the early morning hours, Matthew got up to go help. “To my horror, the oxygen machine was still running, and my mother was making the most distressing sounds I’d ever heard.” It was a condition of the dying known as the death rattle.
Panicking, Matthew told his sister that Amazing Facts was coming on television and he needed to watch it to calm himself down.
Peace and Strength
Pastor Doug’s sermon that day was on the power of the Holy Spirit. Afterward, Matthew got on his knees. “I prayed that my mom would not suffer long and that I would receive peace and strength to deal with this difficult time.”
God answered his prayer. “I stopped crying,” Matthew shares. “Instead, I was singing and praising God even as Mom took her last breath.” The peace he was given that day is still with him.
Matthew is grateful for you and Amazing Facts’ other co-laboring friends. He says, “I am so thankful for all they do, changing lives and winning souls for Jesus.”
