For you have been given not only the privilege of trusting in Christ but also the privilege of suffering for him. We are in this struggle together. You have seen my struggle in the past, and you know that I am still in the midst of it. – Philippians 1 29-30
Paul clearly teaches that both trusting and suffering were components of being faithful follower of Jesus Christ. And his letter to the Philippians serves to address all who may be wondering why they had to suffer if they were faithfully living for God.
From his prison cell Paul makes it clear that godliness and suffering often go together. And just like the Church of Philippi faced persecution for trusting and suffering for Christ, there are times when we suffer, at the hands of the world, because we are following the will of God.
The only question left to be determined is, will we consider trusting and suffering for Christ a privilege?
