AI is on the rise, and many are concerned about the effect it will have on the job market, education, the economy, and more. However, according to Wynton Hall, author of the new book Code Red, perhaps the most concerning development is AI-powered autonomous weapons, which are becoming “available to a host of actors, both state and nonstate.”

The New York Post has exclusively published an excerpt of Wynton Hall’s new book Code Red, which hits the shelves on Tuesday. The excerpt explores the reality of AI-powered autonomous weapons, which Hall writes “will increasingly be available to a host of actors, both state and nonstate.”

Although Code Redincludes many technical specifics about the current state and future of AI, it is not a book about technology. It instead is a guide for the conservative movement to form realistic policies and approaches to AI that ensure artificial intelligence works for the good of Americans, not strictly for the benefit of Silicon Valley elite and their leftist political allies. Instead, nations of all sizes and even non-state actors can leverage this technology unless America maintains its place as the global leader on AI by taking on AI-powered threats immediately …
According to Code Red, “equipping our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and guardians with world-class training and weapons” is the best way to achieve piece. Hall also encourages adopting AI, suggesting our leaders should use it to confront “four core national security challenges.” Those challenges are “the autonomous weapons race,” “the rise of AI-powered terrorism,” the “gap between Silicon Valley … and our national security needs,” and “the AI alignment problem.”
In the excerpt published by the New York Post, Hall notes that autonomous, AI-powered drones have already been used in combat. Turkish-made AI drones reportedly appeared on a Libyan battlefield in early 2020. This shows that this new form of weaponry isn’t a horror story from science fiction. It’s reality, and it will only become more common as technology continues to evolve.
