God wants us to be truthful because He is truthful. Everything God says and does is true because He Himself is truth.
This is the essential truth in Exodus 20 verse 16 where God’s 9th Commandment says: “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.”
In our modern western culture of today, lying is seen as… just what you have to do to get by.
There is little to no remorse when a person gets caught lying—It’s just shrugged off as no big deal.
But lying, or bearing false witness, IS a big deal to God.
