Capitol Connections offers intercessors an opportunity to engage with their state leaders by sending handwritten prayer cards with encouragement, scripture, and gratitude. The IFA New Hampshire State Prayer group also goes on monthly visits, prayer walking in the State House, introducing themselves, and offering to pray with elected officials and other State House staff. The IFA NH State Prayer Group recently visited the State House to meet with leaders and ask how they could pray, and witnessed something extraordinary. If you have ever questioned whether there are Christians in government or why they would get involved in politics, I pray this testimony encourages you.

Let the IFA community know how to pray for you.

New Hampshire State Prayer Leader Donna Peterson, Co-State Leader Annette Tuttle, and two other members of IFA New Hampshire, Terry Barton and Carrie Carson, went to the State House on March 26, 2026, to pray with any leaders who would be willing. “As we did a prayer walk through the State House, seeking the Holy Spirit, we ran into our elected officials, introduced ourselves as IFA, and thanked them for their work. We told them we have weekly prayer calls, where we pray for them, and asked if they had any needs. We ran into many who were open to it”, Donna said.

“Although we were a small group, it turned into a powerful time of prayer with various legislators.
IFA NH State Leader Donna Peterson with an American Bible replica.

When we first started doing Capitol Connections last June, we learned that there are a lot more Christian Representatives and Senators in our State House than we realized. A common response we heard from several legislators was, ‘I hated politics. I never wanted to be a part of it, but I was so concerned with what was happening in my state and the nation. The Holy Spirit kept telling me, I want you to run for office.’ We heard this more than once.

We have also heard our Christian legislators say, ‘I don’t consider myself to be a politician. I consider myself to be a public servant.’ They don’t want to get mixed up in things; they want to bring biblical values and God’s righteousness into government. They have a heart that wants to serve the people as best they can, not for appearances or to get elected. It is beautiful, and they come with a totally different perspective than one might expect, Donna said.

In the first month, we went to the State House for our Capitol Connections prayer walk. One man passed by the group several times in the hallway. Since his door was wide open, we stopped by, introduced ourselves, and asked if we could pray for him. He turned out to be the Senior Legislative Aide to the Speaker of the House.” After some conversation, Donna found out they attend the same church. Since it is a large church with several services, neither of them had crossed paths prior. This God connection has led to a trusted relationship in which he has felt confident asking IFA NH to pray.

“During our visit to the State House on March 26, 2026, two legislators approached the four of us simultaneously. We have met them before. One legislator I met at a March for Life event a couple of years ago. We told her about IFA and told her we were there to pray for the legislators at the State House. The other legislator lives in the same town as Carrie Carson. She shared with us that she just became the head of a TPUSA Chapter in her town and told the group she is looking for someone to help get out the vote. We just were being obedient to pray, and God was connecting us.”
IFA NH State Co-leader Annette Tuttle with an American Bible replica.

“We have an in-person House of Prayer in New Hampshire (NH HOP), which meets at Annette Tuttle’s church. She has led the House of Prayer for many years, and over the last year, a different legislator has been invited to join us once per month. They bring their top three prayer points. We pray into these and also pray for the legislator personally. We have one Senator who was so blessed when she came that she shared it with her colleagues. One of them asked her to ask us if he could come, too. This Senator is coming to the NH HOP meeting this coming Monday! It is such an encouragement to know that there are legislators attending prayer time and inviting others.”

From the House of Prayer to the State House

Donna shared that an intercessor from the House of Prayer tried to run for the House in the 2024 election cycle. He had actually tried years earlier and didn’t get in, but the Holy Spirit told him to run again, and this time he got elected. Another man who attends Donna’s church is a small group leader and a teacher. He was also called by God to run for the House, and he won.

“Because they are Christians, they come under attack for their positions. But because of their faith in the Lord, they stand. They said, God is not done with me being there and I plan to run again.”

“One House member is a conservative Christian whom we’ve met before, Donna said. We had no idea how long he had been serving. He told us that when he was sixty-four, he was ready to retire. He thought he’d spend his days serving in his local church. The Lord told him to run for office, and he tried the “Moses” thing, where he told God he was ‘slow of speech’. The Holy Spirit still urged him to run for office. He asked the Lord, ‘Am I going to win?’ The Lord only replied, ‘Run for office.’ So he ran, won, and has been in the House for eighteen years! At eighty-two years old, he stands for righteousness and biblical values. He told Donna, Now it’s time for someone younger to come into the ranks. We told him we would be praying for his replacement.”

Legislators Want the Word of God

Two days prior to this time of prayer, Donna learned that the Pastor of Granite State Baptist Church in New Hampshire had connected with Rock of Ages Ministries in Cleveland, Tennessee. They printed replicas of the first American Bible, published in 1782. During the Revolutionary War, when shipping from Great Britain, including Bibles, was stopped. The first printer for the Journal of Congress, Robert Aitken, sought to print the first American Bible. This is the only Bible approved by Congress. It was the first King James Bible that was recommended to Americans, made in America. It was the first Bible in schools, printed after the Declaration in 1782 and five years before the Constitution. This Bible was at the very foundation of our nation.
From left to right, Terry Barton, IFA NH State Leader Donna Peterson, a pastor from Granite State Baptist Church, Carrie Carson, and IFA NH State Co-Leader Annette Tuttle.

“The American Bible Project wants to bring this important Bible back into print for government, schools, and churches. Two Pastors in New Hampshire came on board with this project and bought copies of this Bible to put in the hands of every member of the House of Representatives and every Senator. New Hampshire has 400, Donna said, and 24 Senators. They personalized and put each legislator’s name on the Bible when they handed them out.”

“The project was very well received. Many legislators wanted copies. We saw some sitting on benches in the State House, looking through the Bibles. We sat on one bench praying, and legislators came by and thanked us for praying. We introduced ourselves and asked whether they needed prayer; many said yes. It was like the Presence of God was just saturating the State House. The spiritual atmosphere was more open than we had ever seen before. It’s like the doors of heaven were flung open,” Donna said.

Perhaps the atmosphere at the State House was charged not only by continual intercession but also by the legislators’ warm reception of the Word of God. These are two powerful weapons, and when combined, they produce results. I have no doubt that God is at work in New Hampshire.

After hearing about Donna’s encounter at the New Hampshire State House, I was encouraged to know that there are, in fact, Spirit-filled Christians who serve God in office. Some of these men had regular “non-political” lives, and God called them to run, and they won. If your legislators are not believers, this would make a great prayer point. Pray for believers in your city to be obedient to God’s promptings to run for office. Never quit praying, no matter what kind of leaders you have. Your obedience to pray for your leaders matters to God.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Father, You are so good. We praise you for how you are at work in this nation. We pray for the seeds planted in New Hampshire through fervent intercession, and we pray they will bear 100-fold results. Lord, we thank you for the open doors in New Hampshire, for divine connections that brought the Word of God into the State House, and for so many legislators being receptive to prayer. Do it across our nation. We pray for the hunger for prayer and the word of God to increase in our government among our elected officials, that they will use their seats to see Your kingdom come and Your will be done in this nation. Fling wide the gates of our Capitols, so the King of Glory may come in. Who is the King of Glory, the Lord strong and mighty? We magnify Your name above every other name, and exalt You over this nation, in Jesus name, amen.
