A quick note on “the Jews” in this video. I think it’s important to note three things that didn’t make it into the video:
1) The gospel of John sometimes refers to “the Jews” in a rather sweeping way, but there were many Jews who believed in Jesus at this point in the story (John 12:9–11). Still, John draws a distinction for the reader when it comes to this part of the narrative: “Therefore Jesus no longer moved about publicly among the people of Judea. Instead he withdrew to a region near the wilderness, to a village called Ephraim, where he stayed with his disciples.” (John 11:54)
2) Passages that speak of the Jews rejecting and killing Jesus have been used to justify violence, injustice, hate, and prejudice against Jewish people for centuries. This is obviously wrong, and contrary to the teachings of Christ.
3) As if he could see this coming, the author of John overtly states at this point in the story that Jesus will “die for the Jewish nation, and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one.” (John 11:51–52) While there’s a distinction in the narrative here, the author himself seems to agree with the Apostle Paul that by the end of the story, “there is neither Jew nor Gentile […] for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)
