“And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. Then came Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulcher, and seeth the linen clothes lie, and the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.” John 20:6-7 (KJV)

The empty tomb speaks volumes to those who will listen. When John stooped and looked in, he didn’t just see linen clothes; he saw a message hidden in plain sight: Jesus had risen, and death could not hold Him. That napkin, folded neatly apart from the grave clothes, whispers a secret about God’s order and purpose—what was once broken can be restored, and what seems final is only the beginning of something miraculous.

Jesus didn’t choose perfect people to carry His message. He chose ordinary men with ordinary flaws. Andrew, the connector, introduced people to Jesus, showing us that sometimes our calling is simply to point others to Christ. James, “the son of thunder,” reminds us that passion and courage can shake the world when placed in God’s hands. Philip teaches us the value of faithful service, even behind the scenes, while Thomas reassures us that questions and doubt are welcome, as long as we seek truth. Matthew, the tax collector, shows that no past is too messy for God to redeem, and little James proves that God can do great things with humble resources.

Thaddaeus had a heart for the world, Nathanael’s honesty earned Jesus’ attention, John embodied love, and Peter’s humanity makes him relatable to us all. Each of these men, with all their imperfections, became pillars of the Church because Jesus saw beyond what they were to what they could become.

The folded napkin reminds us that resurrection is not just about Jesus rising, it’s about what God can do in our lives. He can take the broken, the doubting, the overlooked, and the ordinary and use us for extraordinary purposes. Just as the linen and the napkin were left in order, God leaves us in the right place at the right time for His glory.

This Easter, let the folded napkin speak to you: God sees you. God knows your heart. He can use your life—your questions, your weaknesses, your past failures—for His kingdom. And just as Jesus was raised, we too are called to rise in faith, hope, and love, pointing others to the One who makes all things new.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for seeing me, for knowing my heart, and for using my life for Your glory. Help me rise in faith, trust in Your plan, and point others to You. Amen.
