“So Abram said to Lot, ‘Please let there be no strife between you and me… for we are brethren.’” Genesis 13:8 (NKJV)

There is wisdom in getting around people who are blessed. There is growth in walking with people who know God. But there comes a moment when you cannot live off someone else’s relationship with Him. You need your own walk.

Lot made a good decision in the beginning. He stayed close to Abraham, a man who clearly walked with God. Because of that connection, blessing began to flow into his life. His herds increased. His influence grew. His life improved. This is a reminder that who you walk with matters. The people around you shape your direction, and your circle often reflects your future.

But something was missing. Lot never built his own relationship with God. He followed a man who walked with God, but he did not walk with God himself. And eventually, that gap showed up in his decisions.

When the time came to choose land, Abraham gave Lot the first choice. Instead of seeking God, Lot chose what looked good. He saw green fields and opportunity. What he did not see was the danger attached to it. He moved toward Sodom, a place that looked successful but was spiritually broken. For a season, it seemed like Lot was winning. Everything appeared to be working in his favor.

At the same time, Abraham took what looked like the lesser path. He stepped into a dry place. Yet it was there that God spoke and gave him a promise too great to measure. While Lot chased what looked right, Abraham received what was right. You have to learn this truth. What looks good is not always God. When you walk with Him, you trust His voice more than your eyes.

Lot’s choices eventually led him into trouble. He and his family were taken captive. What looked like success turned into bondage. But Abraham did not ignore it. When he heard the news, he rose up and went to fight for his family. Your family is worth fighting for. Not with anger, but with prayer. Not with pride, but with faith. You do not sit back while the enemy tries to take what God has given you. You stand up and believe God for restoration.

There comes a moment when you must pray for yourself. You must seek God for yourself. God is calling you deeper. He is calling you to walk it out with Him every day.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to walk closely with You. Help me to choose what is right, not just what looks good, and give me strength to stand and fight for my family. Amen.
