The new anti-fraud task force led by Vice President JD Vance has resulted in over 400 hospices and nearly two dozen home health agencies in California having their payments suspended due to troubling findings, with the White House issuing a grave warning to suspected fraudsters.
Since the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud was launched on March 16, Vance and his team have hit the ground running to root out where the American taxpayers are being ripped off by bad actors. On March 25, a source familiar with the matter told Breitbart News that the task force and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) had identified and suspended 70 Los Angeles-based hospice and home health businesses that showed red flags of being fraudulent.
As of Wednesday, 447 hospice businesses and 23 home health agencies around the state have been cut off because of alleged fraud, with the total of those suspensions being valued at more than $600 million.
This sweeping action reflects a broader effort by the administration to restore accountability in federal healthcare spending. Programs like Medicare and Medicaid are designed to serve vulnerable Americans, but when fraud infiltrates these systems, it not only wastes taxpayer money—it also undermines trust and diverts resources from those who truly need care. The sheer number of suspensions suggests systemic issues that may extend beyond California.
The involvement of Mehmet Oz and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services signals a coordinated federal push to aggressively identify and eliminate fraud nationwide. Earlier efforts to block hundreds of millions in questionable Medicaid funding in Minnesota point to a pattern of increased scrutiny, especially in states where oversight may have been lacking. This task force appears to be just the beginning of a much larger effort to clean up government healthcare spending.
