Last night, a lone gunman interrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, firing shots in an attempt to assassinate President Trump.

An alleged shooter is in custody, and President Donald Trump was evacuated, after shots were fired at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night. A Secret Service agent was reportedly shot, but wasn’t seriously hurt because of a vest, according to Fox News. There are no reported injuries beyond the agent.
The president said that law enforcement believes the shooter was a “lone wolf,” and the suspect has been identified as Cole Allen, 30, from Torrance, California, according to CBS News.
Metropolitan Police Department Interim Chief Jeffrey Carroll said at a press conference that the suspect was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives, and United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said that the suspect will be arraigned on Monday for charges of “using a firearm during a crime of violence” and “assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon.”
Video shared to Truth Social by the President shows Allen sprinting through a security checkpoint. President Trump commended Secret Service and law enforcement for doing a “fantastic job,” highlighting that the shooter was stopped quickly after passing the checkpoint and long before he reached the ballroom.
President Trump faced two assassination attempts on the campaign trail in 2024, with one attempt notably leaving him injured. In remarks made shortly after the shooting, the President said that those who “make the biggest impact” are usually targeted in attacks, highlighted that he was targeted on account of all the progress his administration has made.
Though this attack seems to have been largely harmless, it is frightening to think about how desperate the Enemy of our souls is to take down the President. Let’s pray for the protection of President Trump, his family, and every administration official!
