“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents… and they were not afraid of the king’s command.” (Hebrews 11:23 NKJV)
When you think about heroes of faith, you may not immediately think of parents quietly protecting their children behind the scenes. Yet Moses’ parents were lifted into Hebrews 11 for one simple but powerful reason. They chose to hide their son. In a time when fear ruled and a decree demanded death, they refused to go along with the culture. They stood in faith and protected what God had entrusted to them. That is what made them heroes.
They did not perform miracles or stand before crowds. They simply guarded their child. They paid attention to what he saw, what he heard, and what shaped his early years. They understood something that still matters today. The formative years are sacred. What a child is exposed to early will shape how they think, what they value, and who they become. So they made a decision to hide him, to cover him, and to protect his heart and mind for as long as they could.
In the same way, you are called to be a hero in your home. You are a hero when you choose to guard your children instead of exposing them too early. You are a hero when you set boundaries, when you say no to things that could harm them, and when you create an environment of purity, truth, and safety. It will not always be popular. There will be moments when they do not understand. There will be times when you feel like the strict one or the one holding the line. But you are not called to be their best friend in every season. You are called to be their protector and their guide.
There came a time when Moses’ mother could no longer hide him. She had to release him. But she did not send him out empty. She built a basket and covered it with care. What she placed in him during those hidden years went with him into a world that believed very differently. Even when he was surrounded by another culture, something deeper had already been planted inside of him. That is your calling too. You cannot hide your children forever, but you can prepare them. Every prayer you pray, every truth you speak, every example you live becomes part of what carries them when they step into the world. What you build in private will hold them in public.
Moses’ parents were heroes because they hid their child and then released him with a foundation strong enough to stand. You are a hero when you do the same.
Prayer: Father, give me wisdom and courage to protect what You have entrusted to me. Help me to guard my children with love and truth, and to lead them in a way that honors You. Let what I pour into them take root deeply and remain strong when they step into the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
