“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” James 4:8 (KJV)

There is something about the presence of God that cannot be faked, borrowed, or inherited. It must be pursued. There is a story of a young warrior in a Native American tribe who was told to climb a steep and grueling mountain as a test of readiness. Many started the climb, but few finished. When they returned, the chief asked a simple question, “What did you see at the top?” Only the ones who truly reached the summit had the answer. They had seen something they had never seen before.

Seeking the presence of God is much the same. It is not always easy. It requires intention, discipline, and perseverance. Like climbing a mountain, there are moments when everything in you wants to stop. Your mind will tell you it is too hard, unnecessary, even extreme. Others may not understand the hunger in your heart. But there is something waiting at the top that cannot be experienced halfway. Fasting, prayer, and time with God are not about outward performance; they are about inward pursuit. They are ways of saying, God, I want You more than comfort, more than routine, more than anything this world can offer. It is a decision to step away from distractions and press into His presence. And what happens in that secret place matters more than anything seen in public.

Jesus Himself showed us this pattern. In the wilderness, alone with God, He faced temptation and opposition. His identity was challenged, His purpose tested, yet He responded with truth. “It is written.” Over and over, He stood firm. No crowd saw it. No one applauded it. But that private victory produced public power. When He came out of that season, He returned in the power of the Spirit. That is the promise for every believer. What you pursue in secret shapes what you carry in public. When you seek God deeply, you begin to see differently, think differently, and walk differently. His presence becomes real, not just something you know about, but something you experience.

So do not stop halfway. Do not settle for surface-level faith. Keep climbing. Keep seeking. Because those who truly press in will see something they have never seen before, the reality of God’s presence in their lives.

Prayer: Lord, give me a deeper hunger for Your presence. Help me to push past distraction, comfort, and excuses so I can truly seek You. Strengthen me in the secret place, where no one sees but You. Let my time with You shape my identity, my decisions, and my life. Teach me to stand on Your Word and to pursue You with all my heart. And as I draw near to You, reveal Yourself to me in ways I have never experienced before. Amen.
