The race for mayor of Los Angeles has taken an unexpected turn, with late-counted ballots reshaping the outcome and fueling renewed debate about California’s election system. As election officials continue processing votes, concerns about transparency and public trust are once again taking center stage.

Do you want state prayer alerts?

    From The Daily Wire:

Leftist Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman will advance to the November mayoral election after nearly a week of counting late-arriving ballots, locking Republican Spencer Pratt out of the race.

Sunday’s vote drop surged Raman past Pratt for the first time, a stunning turnaround for the leftist who trailed Pratt by more than nine points on election night.

With 83% of the vote counted, incumbent Mayor Karen Bass holds 34.7%, Raman in second at 27.1% and Pratt placing third with 26.7%. Decision Desk HQ projected the race at 7:57 p.m. EDT.

The June 2 primary election was held to determine which two candidates would advance to the November runoff. Under California’s election rules, the top two vote-getters move on unless a candidate receives more than 50% of the vote outright. Mayor Karen Bass secured her place in the runoff early, but the battle for second place remained unsettled for days as additional mail-in ballots were processed.

Spencer Pratt, best known for his reality television career, emerged as an unlikely contender by focusing on issues that resonate with many Los Angeles residents, including homelessness, crime, affordability, and the city’s recovery from recent disasters. Pratt also drew national attention after losing his home in the devastating January 2025 wildfires. His campaign sought to appeal beyond traditional Republican voters in a city where registered Republicans make up only a small percentage of the electorate.

As the vote totals shifted, questions about California’s lengthy ballot-counting process quickly followed. Pratt publicly questioned the large swing in vote totals after Election Day, while President Donald Trump amplified broader concerns about election administration in the state. Democrats and election officials reject allegations of fraud, arguing that California’s expansive vote-by-mail system and acceptance of ballots arriving after Election Day naturally extend the counting process.

The outcome sets up a November showdown between Mayor Bass and Councilmember Raman, who is aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America and entered the race from the mayor’s left flank. The election will likely serve as a referendum on the direction of Los Angeles as residents continue grappling with homelessness, public safety concerns, economic pressures, and rebuilding efforts following recent crises.

This race highlights the importance of both election integrity and civic engagement. Regardless of political affiliation, confidence in election outcomes is essential for maintaining public trust. As Americans watch developments in Los Angeles and elsewhere, this moment offers another opportunity to pray for transparency, honesty, and wisdom among election officials and public leaders.

Pray for integrity, transparency, and public confidence in our elections in the comments.
