No Peace, No Nukes: Trump’s Ultimatum to Saudi Arabia

A major diplomatic development is unfolding in the Middle East that carries profound implications for Israel, regional security, and the global nuclear landscape. President Donald Trump has drawn a firm line connecting American nuclear cooperation with Saudi Arabia to the broader goal of Arab-Israeli normalization, a linkage that has sparked both hope and alarm among U.S. allies and critics alike.

Connect with others in your state in prayer.

    From The Washington Times:

Any nuclear deal between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia would be contingent on Riyadh normalizing relations with Israel and would prohibit the production of atomic weapons, President Trump said Thursday. Mr. Trump made the statement one day after the agreement, signed Wednesday in Washington, set off alarms in both Israel and the United States.

Critics of the deal underscored what was not mentioned in the document: Saudi Arabia’s future relationship with Israel. Yair Golan, chairman of Israel’s left-wing Democrats party, blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the omission.

Mr. Golan said normalization with Saudi Arabia has been a strategic goal for Israeli leaders across the board, but the Trump-brokered deal is lacking.

The civil nuclear cooperation agreement, known as a 123 Agreement, lays the legal foundation for a decades-long, multibillion-dollar partnership between Washington and Riyadh. Energy Secretary Chris Wright called it a milestone in U.S.-Saudi commercial relations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the arrangement from the Philippines, arguing that American involvement gives Washington leverage over how the program develops and ensures proper safeguards are in place. The deal still requires congressional notification before it can take effect.

The broader context is volatile. Iran has launched attacks on U.S. military bases in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq since joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes targeted Iranian facilities. At least 15 American service members have been killed and more than 543 wounded. Oil prices surged past $100 per barrel after Tehran-backed Houthi forces announced a maritime embargo on Saudi Arabia and claimed to have struck two Saudi oil tankers. The national average for a gallon of gas climbed to $4.09, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.

Scripture calls believers to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and to stand with Israel (Psalm 122:6). This agreement sits at the intersection of nuclear proliferation, Middle East peace, and the security of America’s closest ally in the region. The Abraham Accords have already reshaped the diplomatic landscape, and whether Saudi Arabia joins them carries enormous consequences for Israel’s long-term security. We who believe God’s covenant purposes for Israel are still active have every reason to watch this development closely and bring it before the Lord in prayer.
