These song-prayers told in verse have historically been used as starting places for prayer. As we pray alongside David, Asaph, and others, lifting our voices to the Lord, we learn to praise the Lord. To lament with honesty and faithfulness. To express a variety of emotions in a way that honors the Lord.<\/p>\n<p>Regular Scripture reading, including\u00a0the\u00a0Psalms,\u00a0can\u00a0shape\u00a0our prayers.\u00a0Not only will we grow in our ability to pray as we speak God\u2019s Word back to Him, but we will\u00a0begin to be formed\u00a0by the biblical passages we offer in prayer.\u00a0For we are using Scripture to\u00a0fellowship with the Lord, a book that is sweeter than honey and sharper than\u00a0any double-edged sword\u00a0(Psalm 119:103;\u00a0Hebrews 4:12).\u00a0It has the power to transform us.<\/p>\n<p>Adding\u00a0Bible reading to\u00a0a daily\u00a0routine\u00a0will look different for each person. A few\u00a0practices, though, can help\u00a0us implement a prayerful engagement with Scripture:<\/p>\n<p>1. <em>Lectio Divina<\/em>, a Latin term for\u00a0sacred reading, which includes a cycle of Bible reading, meditation, prayer, and contemplation<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0Regularly praying verses aloud<\/p>\n<p>3. Using a\u00a0Scripture reading plan that promotes a slower, more thoughtful pace.<\/p>\n<p>Choosing a practice that combines time\u00a0with God and listening and talking to Him promotes a prayerful posture\u00a0in life.<\/p>\n<p>Taking in a consistent diet of the Bible is vital to fueling our prayer life. Hence, we so often hear about the need to read Scripture and pray, as if the two disciplines are intrinsically linked. They are.
