{"id":12639,"date":"2025-12-16T19:33:57","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T19:33:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=12639"},"modified":"2025-12-16T19:33:57","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T19:33:57","slug":"nicaragua-bans-tourists-from-bringing-bibles-into-the-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=12639","title":{"rendered":"Nicaragua Bans Tourists From Bringing Bibles Into the Country"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>Tourists entering Nicaragua are no longer allowed to carry Bibles into the country.<\/p>\n<p>The U.K.-based group Christian Solidarity Worldwide\u00a0reported this month\u00a0that notices at Tica Bus terminals in Costa Rica, which offer routes to Nicaragua\u2019s capital city of Managua, informing passengers that magazines, newspapers, cameras, and books \u2014\u00a0including the Bible \u2014\u00a0are prohibited.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Knives, perishable foods, and drones are also banned.<\/p>\n<p>A representative from the company\u2019s Honduras location said the restrictions have been in place for about half a year.<\/p>\n<p>Anna Lee Stangl, director of advocacy and Americas team leader for CSW, is urging Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega and his regime to lift the ban \u201cimmediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Nicaraguan government\u2019s efforts to restrict the entry of Bibles, other books, newspapers, and magazines into the country are highly concerning, given the current context of repression,\u201d she said. \u201cWe call on the government of Nicaragua to lift this ban immediately, and to cease its continued efforts to stifle freedom of religion or belief and expression in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stangl added, \u201cWe also reiterate our call on the international community to seek creative ways to support and strengthen independent Nicaraguan voices both inside the country and in exile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>News about the ban on Scripture comes as Nicaragua continues its crackdown on religious liberty. In the spring,\u00a0CBN News reported\u00a0that the country had withdrawn itself from the U.N.
