(FOX NEWS) \u2013 As people around the world look forward to ringing in 2026, some major cities have already called off celebrations or special events.\n<\/p>\n

Paris, for example, has called off its famous\u00a0New Year\u2019s Eve live concert\u00a0on the Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es.\n<\/p>\n

The mayor of the 8th Arrondissement of Paris, Jeanne d\u2019Hauteserre, told Agence France Press that the cancellation is due to\u00a0concerns about \u201cunpredictable crowds\u201d and that the areas\u00a0\u201care not sized to host this type of event where people are moving.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Fireworks will still take place at the Arc de Triomphe. Instead of a live concert, however, a pre-recorded one will be broadcast.\n<\/p>\n

In Tokyo, the Shibuya Countdown Event has been canceled by the organizing committee, according to a government press release.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cIn order to create a safe and secure city, we continue to be vigilant against nuisance behavior arising from drinking on the street, as well as the risk of crowd accidents,\u201d wrote Ken Hasebe, Shibuya Ward mayor, in the release.\n<\/p>\n

The city of Belgrade in Serbia also announced that it\u2019s canceled its celebrations.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year there will be no organized New Year\u2019s Eve nor Serbian New Year\u2019s Eve celebration,\u201d wrote Mayor Aleksandar \u0160api\u0107 in a press release.\n<\/p>\n

The cancellations come as\u00a0the FBI\u00a0busted a New Year\u2019s Eve bombing plot in Los Angeles earlier this week, arresting four alleged gang members.\n<\/p>\n

The plot allegedly included a plan for coordinated bombing attacks using improvised explosive devices, meant to target\u00a0five separate locations\u00a0across the city, the FBI told Fox News Digital.\n<\/p>\n

About a million people\u00a0<\/strong>are expected to pack into Times Square in Manhattan for the famous\u00a0New Year\u2019s Eve ball drop.\n<\/p>\n

Paul Mauro, a Fox News contributor and a former NYPD inspector, told Fox News Digital that New Year\u2019s Eve is the biggest police detail probably in the country.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cNew Year\u2019s Eve is sort of the Super Bowl for the NYPD \u2026 You have to do everything you can to control that, not only for [terror] threats, but just for disorder,\u201d said Mauro.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want to ensure that there aren\u2019t people throwing bottles at each other and fighting, or somebody lets off firecrackers, or there\u2019s a stampede.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

There is a ton of work that goes on behind the scenes in Times Square to secure the area, said Mauro.\n<\/p>\n

He referenced planning \u201cfor weeks, if not months,\u201d for New Year\u2019s Eve just ahead of the year 2000.\u00a0\u201c<\/strong>You wouldn\u2019t believe how many windows and rooms were secured by the NYPD, federal agencies and state agencies to make sure that there was a ring around Times Square,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n

Mauro said today\u2019s celebrations have gotten a lot more sophisticated.\n<\/p>\n

For those who plan on being in Times Square on New Year\u2019s Eve, Mauro said it\u2019s essential to have a contingency plan.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re with a group of people, or if you\u2019ve\u00a0brought your kids\u00a0in or something like that, it\u2019s easy to get separated in the crowd,\u201d he said. \u201cIf that happens, you can\u2019t necessarily rely on your mobile phones \u2026 Sometimes the cell circuits in and around Times Square on New Year\u2019s Eve get overloaded.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Travelmation travel adviser Chemeeka Sparks told Fox News Digital that this year, she\u2019s seeing more people opt for\u00a0private or exclusive celebrations.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cCelebrating in New York\u2019s Times Square is the quintessential\u00a0way to ring in the New Year, but there are many people who never experience this because they don\u2019t want to spend the holiday packed shoulder-to-shoulder with a million other people,\u201d said Sparks.\n<\/p>\n

She said\u00a0curated events, dinners and cruises are gaining tractions for celebrations.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThe popularity of these experiences has increased since 2020, when people still wanted a memorable evening, just not surrounded by a lot of other people,\u201d said Sparks.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThese include members-only clubs, high-end ticketed New Year\u2019s Eve celebrations and ultra-private events.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
