{"id":14771,"date":"2026-01-02T15:27:57","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T15:27:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=14771"},"modified":"2026-01-02T15:27:57","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T15:27:57","slug":"top-new-years-resolutions-include-more-prayer-family-time-poll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=14771","title":{"rendered":"Top New Year&#8217;s resolutions include more prayer, family time: poll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/> By  Ryan Foley<span class=\"quiet\">, Christian Post Reporter Wednesday, December 31, 2025<\/span><span class=\"photo-des\">andreswd\/iStock<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As Americans look ahead to 2026, \u201cspending more time with family\u201d and \u201cpraying more\u201d are among the top 10 most common New Year\u2019s resolutions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>YouGov released a survey asking Americans about their views on 2025 as it comes to a close and\u00a0their New Year\u2019s resolutions for 2026. It found that a majority of Americans (51%) did not intend to make New Year\u2019s resolutions for 2026, while 31% sought to set goals for the new year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While the most common New Year\u2019s resolution for Americans was exercising more (25%), two resolutions related to spending more time with family and focusing on faith rounded out the top 10 most common New Year\u2019s resolutions. Fifteen percent of Americans said \u201cspending more time with family\u201d was one of their New Year\u2019s resolutions, while the same percentage of U.S. adults said that \u201cpraying more\u201d was among their top aspirations for 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Other commonly cited new year\u2019s resolutions for 2026 are \u201cbeing happy\u201d (23%), \u201ceating healthier\u201d (22%), \u201csaving more money\u201d (21%), \u201cimproving physical health\u201d (21%), \u201closing weight\u201d (17%), \u201cimproving mental health\u201d (16%), \u201clearning something new\u201d (15%), \u201creading more\u201d (15%), \u201cimproving relationships with friends or family\u201d (13%), \u201cpaying down debts\u201d (12%), \u201cimproving home or life organization\u201d (12%), \u201ctraveling\u201d (11%) and \u201cquitting a bad habit\u201d (11%).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Broken down by political affiliation, Republicans (19%) were more likely than Democrats (15%) or independents (12%) to cite \u201cpraying more\u201d as a New Year\u2019s resolution. A higher share of voters who backed Republican President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election (18%) listed \u201cpraying more\u201d as a New Year\u2019s resolution than voters who supported Democrat Kamala Harris (11%).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, 19% of Republicans identified \u201cspending more time with family\u201d as one of their New Year\u2019s resolutions compared to 14% of Democrats and 13% of independents who said the same. Eighteen percent of Trump voters and 12% of Harris voters named \u201cspending more time with family\u201d as one of their goals for 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Among Americans\u2019 less common New Year\u2019s resolutions for 2026 was \u201cfocusing on spiritual matters,\u201d with 9% of those surveyed naming it as one of their goals for the new year. Ten percent of independents included a commitment to spiritual matters as one of their priorities for the new year, making them slightly more likely than Republicans (9%) and Democrats (8%) to do so. Twelve percent of Trump voters and 8% of Harris voters want to focus more on spiritual matters in 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Other less common new year\u2019s resolutions included in the questionnaire are \u201cspending more time with friends\u201d (9%), \u201cpursuing a career goal\u201d (9%), \u201cpursuing a new hobby\u201d (8%), \u201cgetting a new job\u201d (8%), \u201cmoving\u201d (6%), working to \u201cvolunteer more\u201d (6%), \u201cshowing up on time more often\u201d (4%) and \u201cgetting more involved politically\u201d (4%).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The YouGov survey collected responses from 1,104 American adults from Dec. 9\u201311 and\u00a0has a margin of error of +\/-4 percentage points.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ryan Foley is a reporter for The Christian Post.
