Early on Saturday, the United States military carried out a strike on Venezuela, capturing both President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro and his wife. We are only 6 days into January and we have already seen perhaps the biggest, most important news story of the year.\n<\/p>\n

The United States carried out a \u201clarge-scale\u201d military strike on Venezuela early Saturday morning, capturing President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro.\n<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump confirmed that the dictator and his wife have been flown out of the country.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the country,\u201d Trump said. \u201cThis operation was done in conjunction with\u00a0 U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter!\u201d<\/p>\n

The response to this move came quickly, with people around the world expressing joy, while others condemned the attack. Venezuelans who have suffered under Maduro\u2019s regime have been celebrating. Many Democrats, on the other hand, have accused President Trump of violating international law. According to Breitbart, the Democratic National Committee recently sent out a fundraising email calling Maduro\u2019s capture \u201cunconstitutional\u201d and \u201can unauthorized attack against Venezuela.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Maduro\u2019s capture as also rocked other nations in the area. President Trump predicted that Cuba, a longtime adversary of the U.S., was \u201cready to fall\u201d without security and oil from Maduro\u2019s regime. The President also threatened Colombia, calling its president, Gustavo Petro, \u201ca sick man who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States.\u201d He stated that Petro \u201cis not going to be doing [making and selling cocaine] for a very long time.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Following Maduro\u2019s removal from office, his former second -in-command Delcy Rodriguez was sworn in as Venezuela\u2019s new president. And while she initially demanded the return of her predecessor, she later took a more agreeable tone, offering \u201can invitation to the U.S. government to work together on a cooperation agenda.\u201d Time will tell if this change of heart was genuine.\n<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Maduro appeared in court on yesterday, pleading not guilty to the charges brought against him. He maintained that he is \u201cinnocent\u201d and \u201ca decent man.\u201d His wife also pleaded not guilty.\n<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve likely only seen the beginning of the fallout from the attack. One thing has been made clear though: America is not to be messed with. As Maduro makes his way though our justice system and as other nations react to his capture, let\u2019s pray!\n<\/p>\n
