\u201cI don\u2019t know how you could hear my story and my testimony and not believe that there is a God.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n That\u2019s how Cameron Cortman describes his miraculous, death-defying journey \u2014 a remarkable voyage of trust, survival, and true reliance in the face of life-altering storms.<\/p>\n Cortman, 24, said his family\u2019s harrowing experience began when he was a 1-year-old and his parents were preparing to move to Virginia Beach, Virginia.<\/p>\n But on the day of their move, something happened that would change the course of their lives.<\/p>\n \u201cI got sick with an ear infection in the hustle and bustle of moving,\u201d he told CBN News. \u201cMy mom took me to the doctor. She thought it was just a routine ear infection. I had been getting them a lot lately.\u201d<\/p>\n But Cortman\u2019s mom felt deep in her gut that something else was going on. In fact, after the doctor prescribed antibiotics, she paused to share something she experienced on the way to his office.<\/p>\n \u201c[She said], \u2018Actually, on the way over here, the Lord spoke to me and told me that something is seriously wrong and that we need to go to the hospital,\u2019 which is just a wild thing to say to a doctor,\u201d Cortman recounted. \u201cBut, thankfully \u2026 the doctor was a Christian and he said, \u2018Who am I to really argue with the Lord? So we can send you to the hospital.’\u201d<\/p>\n Watch Cortman explain:<\/p>\n Despite the doctor feeling relatively unconcerned at the time, he knew Cortman\u2019s mother was resolute that she had heard from God. So he complied and called an ambulance \u2014 a fortunate choice considering what happened next.<\/p>\n \u201cThey start to run pretty much every test imaginable, and they come back a few hours later and say, \u2018We\u2019re so sorry, 95% of your son\u2019s blood cells are leukemia. STREAM CBN\u2019S NEW FILM, \u201cINVESTIGATING THE SUPERNATURAL: MIRACLES\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n The shocking news, which upended the family\u2019s lives, confirmed everything his mother had felt.<\/p>\n \u201cAs you can imagine, it\u2019s just a mix of utter disbelief, and shock, and starting to grieve, and really just confusion of what to do,\u201d Cortman said. \u201cAnd I think you kind of immediately go into a mode of, \u2018OK, let\u2019s figure out next steps.’\u201d<\/p>\n Cortman began intense chemotherapy, which carried its own risks for such a young child.<\/p>\n And the family began pressing into the community around them, with Cortman expressing how \u201cblessed\u201d they were to have loving people around to help care for both him and his brother.<\/p>\n Leaning into God and prayer, though, were the main recipes for tackling the chaos.<\/p>\n \u201cThey just really sought to \u2026 understand from the Lord how they could be faithful through the journey,\u201d Cortman said.<\/p>\n These tools were essential as Cortman faced four years of hospital stays, chemotherapy, and other interventions. Along the way, the uncertainty required a profound reliance on the Almighty.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was one of those situations where, \u2018OK, I lived a week,\u2019 then they\u2019re like, \u2018Let\u2019s see how long he can live,\u2019 basically, which is crazy to say,\u201d Cortman said. \u201cI can\u2019t even imagine being my parents and just never really knowing if I was going to make it the next day, or the next month, or the next year.\u201d<\/p>\n Remarkably, the cancer eventually disappeared, something Cortman said was \u201cmiraculous.\u201d And that\u2019s not all.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat\u2019s crazy about that situation \u2014 other than the fact that I was completely cured from cancer \u2014 is they said to my parents, \u2018Although he is cancer free, he\u2019s not out of the woods. So there is a very good chance that he\u2019s not able to speak like everyone else would. He might not be able to walk. So to go from that to where I am today \u2026 a former college athlete [who] had the opportunity to play sports at the highest level, it\u2019s just only God.\u201d<\/p>\n Cortman, who is now the director of digital marketing at Great American Media, a company that produces faith and family-friendly programming, said the entire experience has made him intensely driven and devoted in all he does.<\/p>\n His focus today is spreading the Gospel and working to advance the Christian faith, helping brands like Great American Family and Great American Pure Flix create and market positive, faith-affirming content.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat I love about my role at Great American is I can wake up every day and know that \u2026 the social media posts that my team is creating or the ads that we\u2019re making, we\u2019re really pushing out good into society in a culture of entertainment that is doing the exact opposite,\u201d Cortman said. \u201cSo, I do feel like we are a light in the entertainment industry and it\u2019s so cool to be able to use what I\u2019m passionate about and creative about in marketing while also still glorifying the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n He praised his company for giving families, individuals, and parents a safe experience watching TV and movies \u2014 something he called truly \u201cunique.\u201d<\/p>\n Cameron Cortman with his parents (Photo: Cameron Cortman)<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cWe are telling these really impactful faith redemption stories that I think just really inspire and uplift people, and they\u2019re extremely relatable to journeys that everyone has gone through,\u201d Cortman said.<\/p>\n Connecting the dots between his own medical miracle, God\u2019s plan for his life, and an undying trust, Cortman\u2019s journey to Great American Media is a fascinating one.
