{"id":17567,"date":"2026-02-01T13:36:42","date_gmt":"2026-02-01T13:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=17567"},"modified":"2026-02-01T13:36:42","modified_gmt":"2026-02-01T13:36:42","slug":"senate-strikes-deal-to-fund-government-averting-a-shutdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=17567","title":{"rendered":"Senate Strikes Deal to Fund Government, Averting a Shutdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n              <span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time:<\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>(BREITBART) \u2013 The U.S. Senate struck a deal to fund the government on Thursday, averting a partial government shutdown as the mid-term elections loom large.\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"keep\">Senate Democrats and Republicans agreed to split the bill \u201cfunding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) off from a \u2018minibus\u2019 package of five other major funding bills,\u201d per\u00a0The Hill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"keep\">The Senate will instead move a stopgap bill known as a continuing resolution (CR) that would fund DHS at current levels until Feb. 13.\n<\/p>\n<p>The two sides had\u00a0haggled over the length of the CR, with Democrats insisting on the two-week version that won out.\n<\/p>\n<p>Republicans had sought a six-week CR.<\/p>\n<p>Top Republicans will reportedly circulate the deal among its members to see if any amendments will be necessary. Republicans and Democrats in Congress have come together to get the vast majority of the Government funded until September, while at the same time providing an extension to the Department of Homeland Security (including the very important Coast Guard, which we are expanding and rebuilding like never before),\u201d he wrote.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, both Republicans and Democrats will give a very much needed Bipartisan \u2018YES\u2019 Vote,\u201d he added.\n<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0Associated Press, the Senate \u201ccould vote on the deal as soon as Thursday evening.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the House, Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., told The Associated Press on Thursday that he had been \u2018vehemently opposed\u2019 to breaking up the funding package, but \u2018if it is broken up, we will have to move it as quickly as possible.
