The concerning news came during a House Ways and Means Committee\u00a0hearing\u00a0focused on noncitizens pouring foreign dollars into U.S.-based nonprofit organizations. These groups, many of the witnesses said, are employing such funds to advance left-wing causes and policy priorities across the country.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s refreshing to have a hearing where all witnesses share strong agreement on a central point, namely, foreign money should be kept out of American politics,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Capital Research Center President Scott Walter. \u201cA lot of these [foreign funding] problems involve America\u2019s nonprofit sector, which is traditionally a glory and a strength of this exceptional country. But foreigners abuse this sector \u2014 especially tools like fiscal sponsorship and donor-advised funds, which aren\u2019t inherently bad things \u2014 in order to hide their influence ops.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

In his testimony, Walter referenced the \u201cpoliticized\u201d and recently re-acquisitioned\u00a0Arabella Advisors, a \u201cdark money\u201d network that includes various tax-exempt 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations that subsidize various left-wing ventures. Among these groups is the U.S.-based\u00a0Sixteen Thirty Fund, which has\u00a0reportedly\u00a0received more than $200 million from leftist Swiss billionaire\u00a0Hansj\u00f6rg Wyss\u00a0and his\u00a0Berger Action Fund.<\/p>\n

The Sixteen Thirty Fund has spent hundreds of millions funding far-left ballot initiatives, including measures to include abortion in state constitutions. These efforts are just one of the ways that foreign billionaires are influencing our elections, however. The Federalist also highlights Britain-based Christopher Hohn and Shanghai-based Neville Roy Singham, who have been funding the climate agenda and anti-ICE protests, respectively.\n<\/p>\n

Foreign money is allowed to influence American policy through nonprofits and foundations. Many, though, have pointed out the issues with this. As Americans for Public Trust Executive Director Caitlin Sutherland said, \u201cHow these tax-exempt organizations can simultaneously raise and spend hundreds of millions of dollars from foreign actors, be it from Switzerland or China, all while seeking to influence policies in our backyard, is a problem worth solving.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Foreign billionaires may be swaying American policy right now, but we don\u2019t have to allow this. Let\u2019s pray for wisdom for our leaders, especially those in the House Ways and Means Committee, as they work to protect our nation from these foreign funders.\n<\/p>\n
