Prosecutors say a so‑called “North Texas Antifa Cell” orchestrated a coordinated ambush that wounded an Alvarado police officer. Defense lawyers counter that their clients showed up for an immigrant‑solidarity noise demonstration that spiraled out of control.

…

Federal prosecutors have charged nine people with counts that include providing material support for terrorism, attempted murder and discharging firearms in relation to a crime of violence. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the government alleges that Benjamin Song recruited others, obtained multiple rifles and that members used Signal group chats along with in‑person “gear check” meetings to coordinate the July 4 action. Local reporting also describes investigators recovering AR‑style rifles, body armor and flyers near the detention center. Officials say the group used fireworks and vandalism to lure ICE staff outside the compound before shots were fired.

…

At preliminary hearings, prosecutors leaned on FBI testimony and physical evidence to link the accused to the scene. FBI Special Agent Clark Wiethorn described weapons, tactical radios and Signal messages in court, according to KERA News, while The Associated Press has reported that roughly 11 shell casings and other items were seized by investigators. Defense attorneys argue that even taken together, those details do not establish an organized plot and say many defendants were not near the shooter when the gunfire started.

According to Hoodline, the defense plans to argue that the actions of the accused Antifa militants fall under protected protest, despite the fact that those actions left an officer wounded. Many on the defense’s side also argue that a prosecution victory here could “chill protest” and encourage “broad reading of terrorism laws.”

This case is significant because it is the first case brought against Antifa since President Trump labeled thee group a domestic terrorist organization in September of last year. As such, the verdict in this case will likely determine the future of Antifa in America. A ruling in favor of the prosecution would likely make this case the first of many, as the Trump administration would be quick to charge prominent Antifa activists and hold them accountable. A ruling in favor of the defense, however, may embolden Antifa militants to continue with their destructive, dangerous form of “protest.”

As this trial opens next week, join us in praying for righteous justice and for God’s will to be done!

Share your prayers for justice in the comments below.

(Excerpt from Hoodline.
