About 100 U.S. troops have\u00a0landed\u00a0in\u00a0Nigeria to aid\u00a0the African nation in its fight against\u00a0radical Islamic\u00a0terrorism.\n<\/p>\n

The troops will focus on training\u00a0and advising\u00a0the\u00a0local\u00a0army, according to a statement from the Nigerian military\u00a0on Monday.\n<\/p>\n

Another\u00a0100\u00a0U.S.\u00a0troops are expected to arrive\u00a0in\u00a0Nigeria soon as the two countries work to combat the threat\u00a0Islamist groups pose to the nation\u2019s Christian communities.\n<\/p>\n

More than 50,000\u00a0Christians are estimated have been killed in Nigeria since 2009, and about 7,000 in the first half of 2025 alone, most at the hands of either the terror group Boko Haram or Muslim Fulani militants.\n<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump has drawn attention to the killings since\u00a0returning\u00a0to the\u00a0White\u00a0House, and\u00a0designated Nigeria a \u201cCountry of Particular Concern\u201d over the\u00a0slaughter of Christians.\n<\/p>\n

In October, Trump tasked a\u00a0handful\u00a0of members of Congress, including Rep. Riley Moore, \u201cto immediately look into\u201d the situation in Nigeria and report back to him.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking with the administration, we are making steps in the right direction to address this persecution,\u201d Moore said during an interview on Fox News last week.\n<\/p>\n

JUST IN: The U.S. is sending 200 troops to Nigeria to train its military to fight Islamist militants, according to the Wall Street Journal.\n<\/p>\n

During an appearance on Fox, @RepRileyMoore<\/a> says sources on the ground have told him that the situation in Nigeria is a \u201cbloodbath.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

The U.S. and Nigeria have signed a \u201csecurity cooperation road map,\u201d according to Moore, who is\u00a0advocating\u00a0for each state within Nigeria to have a police force to protect its residents.\n<\/p>\n

Boko Haram and the Islamic State have historically carried out many of the attacks on Christians, but more recently,\u00a0ethnic\u00a0Fulani militias\u00a0have also begun attacking Christian communities in the African nation.\n<\/p>\n

The Nigerian government has acknowledged that it needs U.S. support to combat the violence inside the country.\n<\/p>\n
