You must take a chance. If you wait for perfect weather, you will never plant your seeds …” Ecclesiastes 11:4 (ERV)

Today’s key verse always stops me in my tracks. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat with a dream in my heart, waiting for the “perfect” moment. Maybe you’ve done it, too, telling yourself, When I have more time, more money, more clarity …

But Ecclesiastes 11:4 reminds us, “If you wait for perfect weather, you will never plant your seeds.” And if we never plant, there will be no harvest.

We can see this in Abraham’s story too. In Genesis 12, God asked him to leave his home and go to a land he didn’t know. No directions, no map. I can almost hear him saying, “God, could You give me a little more information?” But Abraham went. And his faith didn’t just bless him — it blessed generations.

That challenges me! Sometimes the step God asks me to take feels small, but I’ll never know who else might be blessed by my obedience.

Then there’s Moses. He argued with God, insisting he wasn’t good enough to speak for his people. That’s me, too. Lord, I don’t feel qualified. But God’s answer to Moses was simple: “I will help you speak …” (Exodus 4:12, NIV).

Over and over, I shrink back instead of stepping out, but God reminds me it’s not about my ability — it’s about His presence.

Similarly, Queen Esther’s story always moves me. She could have stayed hidden in the palace, protected and comfortable, but when the moment came, she risked her life to save her people. Her cousin Mordecai’s words rang out: “Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14b, NIV).

When I hesitate to act, this makes me wonder: What if the very thing I’m afraid to do is the thing God wants to use to impact someone else?

Then there’s Peter, the only disciple bold enough to step out of the boat and onto the water when Jesus called him in Matthew 14:28-31. Sure, he sank when fear got the better of him, but he also got to walk on water.

Every time I face a “boat moment,” I think of Peter. Staying safe feels comfortable, but comfort can keep us from experiencing miracles.

Friend, I don’t know what winds you’re watching today. Maybe it’s fear of failure, rejection, or simply the unknown. I know those feelings all too well. But waiting for perfect conditions means missing out on what God wants to do now.

Maybe today is your day to take one step. Start the thing. Make the call. Write the page. Speak the words. Step out of the boat. Because harvest doesn’t come to those who wait for sunshine — it comes to those who trust God enough to plant seeds, even under cloudy skies.

Lord, I confess I’ve let fear and what-ifs keep me stuck. Today give me the courage to step out even when the winds are strong. Help me trust that You go before me, You go with me, and You hold the outcome. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

OUR FAVORITE THINGS

A lot of us walk around thinking we’re the only ones who feel behind … the only ones who downplay our pain, minimize our dreams, or try to make our grief sound “reasonable.” But that’s not the truth — and it’s not how God sees you. Unpolished is our brand-new reflection journal resource designed to give you permission to stop pretending and start paying attention. It helps you name what you’ve been afraid to admit and the lies you’ve accidentally agreed with — the ones that whisper, You’re unqualified. Too emotional. Too late. Too messy. In every prompt, the journal points you back to a God who doesn’t recruit the version of you who has it all figured out. He calls the version of you who’s still scared, still questioning, but brave enough to sit at His feet. You don’t have to clean yourself up before you talk to Him.
