Last week, an ISIS-supporting terrorist opened fire in an Old Dominion University classroom, killing one and injuring two. Luckily, the shooter was stopped before he could harm anyone else \u2014 by ROTC students. Now, a Virginia lawmaker, Delegate Wren Williams, is calling on President Trump to present these students with a Medal of Freedom.\n<\/p>\n

Last Thursday morning, an ISIS-supporting Islamic terrorist walked into a classroom at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, confirmed he had found the ROTC class, then shouted \u201cAllahu Akbar\u201d and opened fire. Lt. Col. Brandon Shah was murdered. Two other cadets were injured. The attacker \u2014 Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a former Army National Guardsman and now radicalized jihadi terrorist \u2014 was previously convicted of providing material support to ISIS. When he walked into that gun-free zone, he criminally intended to kill American soldiers-in-training on our own soil.\n<\/p>\n

Remarkably, Lt. Col. Brandon Shah\u2019s cadets \u2014 the ones he trained to defend America \u2014 notched their first confirmed kill of an enemy combatant when they rushed the attacker and neutralized him. FBI Special Agent in Charge Dominique Evans\u00a0confirmed\u00a0that ROTC students neutralized the attacker. \u201cIf not for them,\u201d Evans said, \u201cI\u2019m not sure what else he may have done.\u201d I know what else he would have done \u2014 continued killing students until a good guy with a gun showed up and put a hole in the bad guy with a gun.\n<\/p>\n

Mr. President, these are our people. Future officers in the Army you command. Our soldiers, unarmed by university policy, were sitting ducks in a classroom when an Islamic jihadist walked in and opened fire on our military, in our country. Under fire, the unarmed cadets took action against the enemy. In an active shooting, the FBI says to Run. Hide. Fight. These cadets skipped those first two options and chose to fight \u2014 and then went Old Testament on him.\u00a0Talk about winning one for the Gipper.<\/p>\n

According to Delegate Williams, the cadets who took down the threat at ODU proved that Lt. Col. Shah taught the next generation of Army officers well. By neutralizing the threat \u201call within ten minutes of the first 911 phone call,\u201d these cadets \u201cshowed us what true bravery looks like against radical Islamic terrorist threats in America.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

The Delegate notes that awarding these cadets with medals of freedom isn\u2019t just about honoring those who fought to protect others. It\u2019s about speaking into \u201ca moment deeply confused about courage\u201d and refusing to \u201capologize for our pride and patriotism for our country and Commonwealth.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s thank God for these brave young cadets, and let\u2019s pray they that are appropriately honored!\n<\/p>\n
