(THE DAILY CALLER) \u2013 Republican Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is demanding answers from a popular gaming site plagued by pedophilia.\n<\/p>\n

Discord is widely considered the most popular messaging website for gamers, with\u00a0over\u00a0200 million active registered users. However, nearly half of all federal court cases mentioning the site or its users since 2017 involved \u201cchild exploitation,\u201d WBAL-TV\u00a0reported\u00a0in December 2025.<\/p>\n

Uthmeier\u00a0announced\u00a0a civil investigation and a subpoena against\u00a0Discord\u00a0on Thursday, demanding an explanation regarding the platform\u2019s \u201coverwhelming use\u201d by predators.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cGroomers and predators seem to believe that they can get away with targeting children on Discord \u2014 and we are going to find out why,\u201d Uthmeier said in a Wednesday statement. \u201cDiscord owes us an explanation on the overwhelming use of its platform among predators, and what they are doing to protect children.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Sarasota County, Fla. Sheriff Kurt Hoffman told parents that law enforcement is taking the problem seriously.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cMy message is clear, we are committed to protecting our kids, and predators have no safe place in our community,\u201d the sheriff said via Uthmeier\u2019s press release. \u201cIf you exploit children, we will find you, arrest you, and hold you accountable.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

The attorney general\u2019s office demanded, among other documents, \u201crecords of criminal cases involving children, data on how many children are utilizing the platform, and documents relating to the marketing of Discord directly to children.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

A Discord spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the site looks forward \u201cto actively cooperating with\u201d Uthmeier\u2019s office during the investigation.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cDiscord is deeply committed to safety and we\u00a0require\u00a0all users to be at least 13 to use our platform. We use a combination of advanced technology and trained safety teams to proactively find and remove content that violates our policies,\u201d the spokesperson continued. \u201cWe also maintain strong systems to prevent the spread of sexual exploitation and grooming on our platform, and work with other technology companies and safety organizations to improve online safety across the internet. Discord cooperates with law enforcement agencies, including those in Florida, and our reports have helped to play a material role in the prosecution of bad actors.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

State attorneys general have sued Discord in the past for exposing children to predators. Former Democratic New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin\u00a0sued\u00a0the website for \u201cdeceptive and unconscionable business practices\u201d which he said \u201cobscured the risks children faced when using the application.\u201d Platkin said Discord\u2019s conduct \u201cexposed New Jersey children to sexual and violent content, leaving them vulnerable to online predators lurking on the Discord app.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Discord briefly attempted to implement age verification measures in February 2026 before delaying rollouts later that month,\u00a0citing\u00a0in a press release the need to \u201cexpand verification options, increase vendor transparency, and publish detailed technical documentation.\u201d The press release added, \u201cOur commitment to teen safety remains unchanged.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
