{"id":23386,"date":"2026-03-23T10:34:40","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T10:34:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=23386"},"modified":"2026-03-23T10:34:40","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T10:34:40","slug":"march-23rd-chronological-bible-readings-chronological-bible-blog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=23386","title":{"rendered":"March 23rd Chronological Bible Readings \u2013 Chronological Bible Blog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"><strong>Joshua 3:1-6:27<\/strong><\/span><br \/><em><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">~ Click here to read today\u2019s Scripture on Bible Gateway ~<\/span><\/em><br \/><span style=\"color: black\"><em>~ Listen to today\u2019s Scripture with <\/em><em>The ESV Bible<\/em><\/span> ~<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Today is a major day in our readings as the Israelites cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land!\u00a0 The significance of the events in today\u2019s readings cannot be overstated.\u00a0 The Israelites 40 years in the Wilderness are over.\u00a0 God\u2019s Promise made to Abraham is being fulfilled!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">I am intrigued by verse 5 in Joshua chapter 3 today as the Israelites are about to cross the Jordan \u2013<em> \u201cThen Joshua told the people, \u201cPurify yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do great wonders among you.\u201d\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 I\u2019m wondering what the Israelites did to purify themselves?\u00a0 Some sort of ritual purification I\u2019d guess \u2013 likely similar to the purification before meeting God at Mount Sinai, which included washing all their garments as well as themselves.\u00a0 I also wonder what we do in our lives today to purify ourselves?\u00a0 The first thought comes to mind that we are of course purified today completely by the blood of Christ.\u00a0 But, then, I also know that once we have made the decision to follow Christ we will still sin on occasion.\u00a0 And then, is purification needed?\u00a0 Not from a salvation standpoint \u2013 but from simply having a pure heart before God?\u00a0 I\u2019m thinking that our purification today is confessing directly to God our sins and repenting.\u00a0 And I think through this process God\u2019s grace arrives in a nanosecond and purifies us.\u00a0 I think we\u2019re purified by God\u2019s grace today.\u00a0 But, I think in part we need to recognize our own need for purification and confess to God our shortcomings and repent.\u00a0 Let me know what you think on this in the Comments below if you\u2019d like.\u00a0 Again, I\u2019m not looking at this from a salvation \/ justification perspective \u2013 more of the sanctification perspective.\u00a0 I like the thought of purification \u2013 of being pure before God.\u00a0 I pray for this for each of us.\u00a0 No dark corners.\u00a0 No secrets.\u00a0 Just a pure heart before our heavenly Father.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">A watercolor painting is below for verses 16 &amp; 17 \u2013 <em>\u201cThen all the people crossed over near the city of Jericho. Meanwhile, the priests who were carrying the Ark of the LORD\u2019s covenant stood on dry ground in the middle of the riverbed as the people passed by them. They waited there until everyone had crossed the Jordan on dry ground.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Bible.org\u2019s commentary on Joshua\u2019s readings today titled<strong> \u201cCrossing the Jordan\u201d<\/strong> is <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">at this link<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Fascinating! verses today in Joshua chapter 5 verses 13 \u2013 15 \u2013<em> \u201cAs Joshua approached the city of Jericho, he looked up and saw a man facing him with sword in hand.
