(FOX NEWS) \u2013 In the wake of a deadly shooting in Chicago, Sen.\u00a0John Fetterman,\u00a0D-Pa., criticized his own party\u2019s reluctance to talk about violent acts carried out by illegal aliens with criminal histories and condemned calls from Pennsylvania figures to instead target Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.\n<\/p>\n

Authorities are charging Jose Medina-Medina, a 25-year-old Venezuelan national, with the\u00a0killing of a Loyola University student\u00a0last week. Medina-Medina had already been arrested on unrelated charges months before but had been released.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cHow many Democrats are talking about that case? I think probably none,\u201d Fetterman said.\n<\/p>\n

Fetterman said he was disappointed by calls from Philadelphia\u2019s George Soros-backed prosecutor Larry Krasner on Wednesday, who, less than a week after Medina-Medina\u2019s shooting, had threatened to arrest\u00a0ICE agents.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cLighten up, Francis,\u201d Fetterman said, quoting overstated threats made by the comically aggressive character \u201cPsycho\u201d in the 1981 movie, Stripes.\n<\/p>\n

\u201c[Krasner] is constantly \u2014 he says a lot of tough things but, you know, like, you gotta lighten up, Francis.\u2019\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Fetterman\u2019s comments come amid a string of illegal\u00a0aliens who carried out deadly attacks\u00a0after being released from captivity for unrelated crimes.\n<\/p>\n

To the Pennsylvanian political maverick, the trend should be an easy one to condemn.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re here in the country illegally already, and you\u2019re breaking the law, like \u2014 ya gotta go,\u201d Fetterman said.\n<\/p>\n

In recent weeks, the deaths of Sheridan Gorman in Chicago at the hands of Medina-Medina and\u00a0Stephanie Minter in Virginia,\u00a0stabbed to death by Sierra Leone native Abdul Jalloh, have intensified calls from Republicans for greater scrutiny of illegal aliens with violent track records.\n<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Department of Homeland Security\u00a0(DHS) blasted the leniency afforded to both suspects ahead of their deadly attacks.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was failed by open border policies and sanctuary politicians who RELEASED this illegal alien TWICE before he went on to commit this heinous murder,\u201d a DHS spokesperson\u00a0said of Gorman\u2019s killer.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are calling on Governor J.B. Pritzker and\u00a0Chicago\u2019s sanctuary politicians\u00a0to commit to not releasing this criminal illegal\u00a0<\/strong>alien from jail back into American neighborhoods.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Similarly,\u00a0DHS blasted\u00a0Jalloh\u2019s 30 releases\u00a0before he stabbed Minter in the neck at a bus stop.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are calling on Virginia Governor\u00a0Abigail Spanberger\u00a0and Virginia\u2019s sanctuary politicians to commit to not releasing this murderer and violent career criminal from their jail without notifying ICE,\u201d DHS wrote.\n<\/p>\n

Fetterman said the\u00a0issue of repeat offenders\u00a0has long-drawn his attention.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom what I read, the individual that was accused of killing [Gorman]. He was arrested for shoplifting. That\u2019s why I was the Democratic lead on Laken Riley,\u201d Fetterman said, referring to the Laken Riley Act that Congress passed at the beginning of 2025.\n<\/p>\n

That bill requires detention for aliens convicted of bodily harm crimes like burglary, theft, larceny, shoplifting, among others, and empowers state attorneys general to sue the federal government for failure to do so.\n<\/p>\n

Fetterman believes the recent attacks underscore the need for vigilance in\u00a0enforcing immigration law.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cIt should remind everybody how important ICE is for our security,\u201d Fetterman said.\n<\/p>\n
