The early church modeled this principle perfectly. From Acts 2 onward, prayer was at the center of everything. The believers prayed constantly, and the Holy Spirit came upon them. In Acts 3, Peter and John encountered a lame man at the temple because they were on their way to pray at the hour of prayer. Acts 4 tells us that when the church prayed, “the place where they were assembled was shaken.” Acts 5 shows God guiding Paul and Barnabas in response to the prayers of the church. Prayer preceded power, direction, and miracles every time.

Jesus modeled this principle daily. Before performing miracles, before making crucial decisions, He withdrew to pray. Luke 6:12 says, “One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.” Prayer was never an afterthought; it was His priority. The disciples learned from this example that prayer was the foundation for every work God called them to do.

Prayer gives clarity and direction. Nehemiah demonstrates this beautifully. Before rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls, he fasted and prayed, seeking God’s guidance. Only then did he take action, and the walls were rebuilt despite opposition. Esther provides another example: before approaching the king to save her people, she called all the Jews to pray and fast for three days. The success of her mission was anchored in prayer.

Make it your goal to begin each day with intentional prayer, seek God’s guidance before making major decisions, and use prayer to shape your priorities. Do not run ahead of God’s timing. Make prayer your first act rather than your last resort. Before you plan, start, or respond, consult the One who has already mapped out the path for your life.

Prayer: Father, help me to make prayer my first priority every day. Teach me to seek Your guidance before making decisions and to trust Your direction above my own.

Watch the Full Sermon Here

“So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed.” Acts 14:23 (NKJV) Your top priority in life should be prayer.
