{"id":24670,"date":"2026-04-01T11:39:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T11:39:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=24670"},"modified":"2026-04-01T11:39:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T11:39:11","slug":"justice-department-sues-minnesota-over-rules-for-girls-sports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=24670","title":{"rendered":"Justice Department Sues Minnesota Over Rules for Girls Sports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n              <span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time:<\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013 The U.S. Justice Department\u2019s Civil Rights Division filed a lawsuit Monday against Minnesota, alleging the state\u2019s sports policies violate federal civil rights laws that protect against sex-based discrimination.\n<\/p>\n<h4>This content is supported by your donations.<br \/>Give today.<\/h4>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Title IX, the landmark federal law enacted in 1972, prohibits sex-based discrimination in education programs and activities that receive federal funding.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department\u2019s lawsuit marks a new legal fight in the ongoing national debate over transgender student participation in school sports, challenging Minnesota\u2019s policies as a violation of federal protections against sex-based discrimination.\n<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit contends that the Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota State High School League have engaged in sex-based discrimination by requiring girls to compete against boys in sports designated for girls.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Trump Administration does not tolerate flawed state policies that ignore biological reality and unfairly undermine girls on the playing field,\u201d Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement.\n<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit asks a judge to rule that Minnesota\u2019s policies regarding student athletes are illegal and to declare that the state has violated Title IX. The DOJ said Minnesota gets $3 billion in yearly federal funding.\n<\/p>\n<p>Federal prosecutors argue that the state\u2019s policies \u201ceviscerate equal athletic opportunities for girls.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey also require girls to share intimate spaces \u2013 such as locker rooms \u2013 with boys. Allowing boys to invade sensitive female-only spaces endangers girls\u2019 privacy, dignity, and safety \u2013 causing a hostile educational environment that denies girls educational opportunities,\u201d attorneys for the Civil Rights Division wrote in the complaint against the state.\n<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said his office will stand up for transgender students.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn April of last year, I sued the Trump administration to stop them from targeting trans kids who just want to play on their school team,\u201d he said in a statement to The Center Square. \u201cThis new suit is just a sad attempt to get attention over something that\u2019s already been in litigation for months.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<h4>Intercessor, add your own prayers in the comments below.<\/h4>\n<p><em>This article was originally published at The Center Square.
