Recently, when our adult son and his wife agreed to join us for an informal Bible study, I thought we would be the ones to impart our wisdom and insight to them. However, much to our surprise, we learned valuable things from them\u2014things we didn\u2019t know before!<\/p>\n
Both young and old are used by God to speak life and truth at various times. Our adult children want us to know that they have valuable insight and wisdom to share. In many cases, the roles are reversed as children age, and parents find there\u2019s a wealth of information to be learned from the younger generation.<\/p>\n
The Bible says, \u201cAs iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.\u201d Proverbs 27:17<\/p>\n
This principle applies to people of all ages and stages, and we, as parents, would be wise to listen to our sons and daughters as they share their experiences, knowledge, and understanding. In fact, there\u2019s something wonderful about realizing your adult children are starting to teach you!<\/p>\n
The key is to be humble enough to accept that you can learn from your adult children. It takes an open mind and willingness to listen more than you speak, love more than you judge, and learn more than you teach.<\/p>\n
This falls in line with how Paul encouraged young Timothy: \u201cDon\u2019<\/span>t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.
