An appeals court smacked down on Tuesday a judge\u2019s sweeping attempt to investigate top Trump administration officials as a \u201cclear abuse of discretion.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Judge James Boasberg, an Obama appointee, planned to hold contempt hearings to assess whether officials willfully ignored his order to return alleged members of the Tren de Aragua gang to the United States, even if it meant turning planes around.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cThe district court proposes to probe high-level Executive Branch deliberations about matters of national security and diplomacy,\u201d D.C. Circuit Judge Neomi Rao, a Trump appointee, wrote in the court\u2019s 2-1 opinion.\n<\/p>\n

This ruling underscores growing tensions between the judicial and executive branches, particularly when it comes to immigration and national security. By stepping in, the appeals court signaled that lower courts do not have unlimited authority\u2014especially when their actions risk interfering with sensitive executive decisions involving diplomacy and public safety.\n<\/p>\n
