Jesus answered, \u201cIt is written: \u2018Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’\u201d -Matthew 4:4<\/em><\/p>\n What does the phrase mean, \u201cour daily bread?\u201d When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness by Satan after 40 days of fasting, he replied, \u201cMan shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.\u201d Even though He knew He could have had a feast at His fingertips by a wave of His hand, He decided that in order to pass the test, God\u2019s words had to be even more important than eating. In order for Him to gain the authority to overcome the spiritual, He had to overcome the natural.<\/p>\n \u201cHe humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.\u201d -Deuteronomy 8:3<\/p>\n When Jesus teaches us how to pray, He includes the phrase, \u201cGive us this day, our daily bread,\u201d (Matt 6:11) as a reference to when the Israelites lives on manna for 40 years in the desert. God\u2019s daily provision is a HUGE blessing when we\u2019re learning to trust in Him. This provision has a spiritual connotation as well \u2013 the Israelites could only store up manna for that day\u2019s meals, otherwise it would rot. God has words that He wants to give us, each and every day \u2013 if we would only seek Him for them. He has \u201cfresh bread\u201d waiting for us. We cannot live today on yesterday\u2019s revelation. As it says in Lamentations, \u201cBecause of the LORD\u2019s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
