{"id":27473,"date":"2026-04-21T08:19:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T08:19:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=27473"},"modified":"2026-04-21T08:19:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T08:19:12","slug":"april-21st-chronological-bible-readings-chronological-bible-blog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=27473","title":{"rendered":"April 21st Chronological Bible Readings \u2013 Chronological Bible Blog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"><strong>2 Samuel 3:6-4:3; 2 Samuel 4:5-12<\/strong><\/span><br \/><em><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">~ Click here to read today\u2019s Scripture on Bible Gateway ~<\/span><\/em><br \/><span style=\"color: black\"><em>~ Listen to today\u2019s Scripture with <\/em><em>The ESV Bible<\/em><\/span> ~<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">In our 2 Samuel chapter 3 readings today, it is interesting to see how David got so mad at Joab for killing Abner.\u00a0 Understandable for many reasons \u2013 murder being the main one \u2013 but also Abner was working to bring David\u2019s kingship to all of Israel.\u00a0 Joab\u2019s murder of Abner threatened the civil war between Judah and the rest of Israel to start up again.\u00a0 To the right below is a wonderful image from an illuminated Bible from the year 1250 of David dining with Abner before the murder.\u00a0 In the smaller left hand frames you can see David sending Abner back to Israel, and then in the lowest left hand frame you can see Abner stabbing Joab.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">And below is an image of David mourning at Abner\u2019s graveside as we read in 2 Samuel 3 verse 32 today: <em>\u201cThey buried Abner in Hebron, and the king and all the people wept at his graveside.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Bible.org\u2019s commentary on our Second Samuel readings today titled <strong>\u201cTwo Bald Men, Fighting over a Comb\u201d<\/strong> is <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">at this link<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Second Samuel chapter 4 verse 11 stood out as David said this to the 2 murderers of Ishbosheth: <em>\u201cNow what reward should I give the wicked men who have killed an innocent man in his own house and on his own bed? Should I not also demand your very lives?\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 Similar to the Amalekite who claimed to have killed Saul and reported this news to David, David was not happy with the news.\u00a0 This all reminds me of the old adage that you cannot fight evil with evil \u2013 you\u2019ll get corrupted in the process.\u00a0 These 2 guys murdered an innocent man, thinking they were doing a greater good for David.\u00a0 David disagreed.\u00a0 Are there times in our lives where we do something wrong \/ bad \/ lie \/ evil for what we think might be a greater good?\u00a0 Aren\u2019t we then corrupted in the process?\u00a0 Do we go from left to right in this photo below? \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 (sorry, couldn\u2019t resist this silly image!\u00a0 On the website where I found this image, they labeled this photo, \u201cThe Dog I bought versus the Dog I got\u201d\u2026 \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"><strong>Worship Video:<\/strong> Today\u2019s readings in 2 Samuel reminded me of Francesca Battistelli\u2019s song \u201cI\u2019m Letting Go:\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Have you let go?\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Click here and let it go!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"><strong>Please join us in memorizing and meditating on a verse of Scripture today:<\/strong> <em>\u201cAnd today, though I am the anointed king, I am weak, and these sons of Zeruiah are too strong for me.
