A federal appeals court has upheld a Texas law requiring public schools across the state to display the Ten Commandments\u2014a major victory for religious freedom advocates who have long argued the biblical text is intertwined with America\u2019s legal, moral, and historical heritage.\n<\/p>\n

In a 9\u20138 ruling, the 17-member Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals held that Senate Bill 10, the law passed by Texas\u2019 Republican-led legislature, does not violate either the Constitution\u2019s Establishment Clause or the Free Exercise Clause.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause Plaintiffs fail to show that S.B. 10 substantially burdens their right to religious exercise, their Free Exercise claims must be dismissed,\u201d the court\u2019s majority opinion stated.\n<\/p>\n

The ruling from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals<\/span><\/span> reverses a lower court\u2019s earlier injunction and allows Texas schools to move forward with displaying the Ten Commandments in classrooms.
