Now, the organization is finally being held accountable for its role in fomenting hate and division.<\/em>\n<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Southern Poverty Law Center\u00a0has raised money for decades claiming to dismantle white supremacy, but it funneled millions of dollars to white nationalist groups, including the Ku Klux Klan, according to a federal indictment handed down Tuesday.<\/p>\n<h4>Post a prayer for your state!<\/h4>\n<p>\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>The SPLC claims it was funding informants inside the extremist groups.\n<\/p>\n<p>While\u00a0the SPLC\u00a0\u201cpurports to fight white supremacy and racial hatred,\u201d acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a press conference that \u201cthe SPLC was not dismantling these groups. It was instead manufacturing the extremism it purports to oppose.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Blanche highlighted one example from the indictment, where the SPLC paid a member of the leadership group that planned the \u201cUnite the Right\u201d rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017.\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udea8READ IT\n<\/p>\n<p>Today, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DAGToddBlanche?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@DAGToddBlanche<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FBIDirectorKash?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@FBIDirectorKash<\/a> announced an 11-count indictment against the SPLC.\n<\/p>\n<p>While SPLC raises money by claiming to oppose white supremacy, the indictment accuses the SPLC of paying the Ku Klux Klan\ud83d\ude32https:\/\/t.co\/Fl8GtFga9A\n<\/p>\n<p>\ud83e\uddf51\/12 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/b567v12DAD\">pic.twitter.com\/b567v12DAD<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tyler O\u2019Neil (@Tyler2ONeil) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tyler2ONeil\/status\/2046724607638491476?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">April 21, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Southern Poverty Law Center themselves advertise to raise money to dismantle violent extremist groups \u2026 however, the SPLC used the money they raised from their donor network to actually pay the leadership of these very groups,\u201d FBI Director Kash Patel explained at the press conference.\n<\/p>\n<p>The indictment charges the SPLC with six counts of wire fraud, aiming to \u201cobtain money via donations through materially false representations and omissions about what the donated funds would be used for.\u201d It charges the SPLC with four counts of false statements to a federally insured bank by creating accounts for fictitious entities to funnel the money. Finally, it charges the SPLC with one count of conspiracy to commit concealment of money laundering.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department\u2019s indictment claims that the SPLC directed more than $1 million to an affiliate of the National Alliance; more than $300,000 to an affiliate of the Aryan Nations; more than $270,000 to a member of the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017; more than $140,000 to the former chairman of the National Alliance; more than $73,000 to former Ku Klux Klan members; and more than $19,000 to the president of American Front.\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">\ud83d\udea8SECRET INFORMANT NETWORK\n<\/p>\n<p>DOJ explains exactly what the SPLC was paying the \u201cinformants\u201d to do.\n<\/p>\n<p>It may make sense for SPLC to cultivate informants if they\u2019re tipping SPLC off to real violent threats. The Daily Signal previously reported that members of the Biden administration worked\u00a0closely with the SPLC.\n<\/p>\n<p>Patel said the FBI\u2019s \u201cinvestigation revealed that funds were used to facilitate the commission of further state and federal offenses, totaling over $3 million.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>He said the SPLC allegedly engaged in a \u201cwidespread, decade-long multimillion-dollar fraud\u201d and proceeded to \u201chide their criminal activity from our financial banking network.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>A reporter noted that the\u00a0FBI had previously worked\u00a0with the SPLC, and asked whether the SPLC revealed to law enforcement that it was funding these entities.\n<\/p>\n<p>Patel said he did not find it surprising that the SPLC \u201cnever told anybody that they were paying off the Ku Klux Klan.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Bryan Fair, interim president and CEO of the SPLC, revealed the federal investigation Tuesday morning, and admitted that the SPLC had paid informants in white nationalist groups.\n<\/p>\n<p>Fair added that the use of paid informants was \u201cnecessary\u201d because of threats\u00a0the SPLC faced.\n<\/p>\n<p>Fair noted that in 1983, members of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan firebombed the SPLC\u2019s offices, and he claimed staff have faced \u201ccountless credible threats\u201d since.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor decades, we engaged in unprecedented litigation to dismantle the Klan and other hate groups,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn light of that work, we sought to protect the safety of our staff and the public. We frequently shared what we learned from informants with local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI. We did not, however, share our use of informants broadly with anyone, to protect the identity and safety of the informants and their families.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>The SPLC built its reputation by suing Ku Klux Klan groups into bankruptcy. Now, the group publishes a \u201chate map\u201d including mainstream conservative and Christian groups alongside Klan chapters.\n<\/p>\n<p>The SPLC did not immediately respond to The Daily Signal\u2019s request for comment.\n<\/p>\n<h4>What do you think of this indictment?
