\u201cI want to start out by saying this: I was wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n
John Bevere made that three-word admission during a recent appearance on CBN\u2019s\u00a0Faith in Culture<\/em>\u00a0podcast, where he opened up about his past avoidance of teachings on the second coming of Jesus.<\/p>\n Years ago, the well-known author and Bible teacher would say \u2014 and even brag \u2014 from the pulpit that he didn\u2019t speak about the end times or the second coming of Jesus, a peculiar boast for a man who just wrote a book about that very subject.<\/p>\n It makes sense, though, when he explained the change of heart he had in 2021.<\/p>\n Bevere, author of \u201cThe King Is Coming: It\u2019s Time to Prepare for the Return of Christ,\u201d said he used to believe spending time poring over Scripture on the end times or Jesus\u2019 return would foster an \u201cescape mentality,\u201d that \u201cpeople would stop planning for the future\u201d and \u201cbecome lazy and argumentative.\u201d<\/p>\n That was until four years ago, when the Texas-based minister felt convicted to begin studying the end times and Christ\u2019s second coming in-depth.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat I noticed \u2014 the fruit I noticed \u2014 was different than what I expected,\u201d he said. \u201cNo. 1, I became more passionate about ministry. I started weeping to just see souls saved, and I hadn\u2019t done that before as intensely.\u201d<\/p>\n But it wasn\u2019t just that, he said. Bevere\u2019s family started noticing a difference in his entire demeanor.<\/p>\n \u201cMy family started saying, \u2018Dad, we\u2019re noticing that you\u2019re calmer. You don\u2019t get upset as easily,’\u201d he recalled. \u201cMy wife started saying, \u2018You\u2019re my favorite husband.\u2019 I said, \u2018What does that mean?\u2019 She said, \u2018Well, I like this version 2.0 better than 1.0.’\u201d<\/p>\n Spending what he described as \u201cthousands of hours\u201d studying what the Bible has to say about the second coming of Jesus and the end times had produced \u201cgood fruit\u201d within him.<\/p>\n The key, he explained on\u00a0Faith in Culture<\/em>, is having a right perspective \u2014\u00a0a hopeful and expectant perspective \u2014 about the return of Jesus.<\/p>\n \u201cOnly one subject is talked about more [than Jesus\u2019 return], and that\u2019s salvation,\u201d Bevere said. \u201cThree-hundred-and-eighteen verses of Scripture in the New Testament alone speak to the second coming of Christ \u2014 that\u2019s one out of every 30 verses. It\u2019s what we\u2019re looking forward to. Think about when you were engaged. Think about when you were a kid and it was December 1st and mom and dad put up the Christmas tree.\u201d<\/p>\n At another point in the conversation, he added, \u201cAs believers \u2014 I believe this with all my heart \u2014 we should live like He\u2019s coming back today, but we should plan like He\u2019s not coming back for 200 years. Why do I say that? Because Jesus Himself commanded us: occupy until I return. Now, to occupy means we\u2019re taking territory. We\u2019re actually doing kingdom business on this earth.
