{"id":27752,"date":"2026-04-26T11:34:22","date_gmt":"2026-04-26T11:34:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=27752"},"modified":"2026-04-26T11:34:22","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T11:34:22","slug":"will-florida-save-republicans-in-redistricting-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biblelon.com\/?p=27752","title":{"rendered":"Will Florida Save Republicans in Redistricting War?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n              <span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading Time:<\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 3<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minutes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Virginia Democrats dealt Republicans a major defeat in the national redistricting war with a\u00a0successful redistricting ballot measure on Tuesday, but the final battle may take place in Tallahassee, Florida.\n<\/p>\n<h4>Let the IFA community know how to pray for you.<\/h4>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, over 51% of voters opted to support allowing Virginia\u2019s Democrat-controlled Legislature to redraw the 11-seat congressional map to boot up to four of the state\u2019s five Republicans from Congress.\n<\/p>\n<p>Should courts reaffirm the referendum\u2019s result, it will likely offset any gains Republicans may have hoped for from a year of tit-for-tat redistricting that began with the Texas Legislature\u00a0drawing five new Republican-friendly districts\u00a0during the summer of 2025.\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">To my eye, Dems have definitively taken the lead in the mid-decade redistricting battle for this cycle.\n<\/p>\n<p>\ud83d\udd35 Ds will likely gain 8-10 seats<br \/>\ud83d\udd34 Rs will likely gain 4-8 seats\n<\/p>\n<p>And it seems like an awfully big risk for FL to further redraw its map given the swings we\u2019re seeing in\u2026 https:\/\/t.co\/LejUpLJvEJ <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zSqgWZYQvF\">pic.twitter.com\/zSqgWZYQvF<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Adam Carlson (@admcrlsn) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/admcrlsn\/status\/2046736052480790903?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">April 21, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Democrats first retaliated with the\u00a0passage of a constitutional ballot measure to allow California to redraw its congressional map.\n<\/p>\n<p>Later, Republicans in the Indiana state Senate shot down a Trump-backed redistricting plan, although maps were redrawn in North Carolina and Ohio to Republicans\u2019 benefit.\n<\/p>\n<p>Now, Republicans may look to Florida to land another blow in the fight.\n<\/p>\n<p>In January, Gov. Ron DeSantis called for a special session of the Florida Legislature focused on redistricting to take place in April.\n<\/p>\n<p>The four-day session starts Tuesday, April 28.\n<\/p>\n<p>The governor\u00a0has argued<span class=\"screen-reader-text\">opens in a new tab<\/span>\u00a0that since \u201cFlorida has experienced 10 years\u2019 worth of population growth in, like, three,\u201d its districts \u201care not fairly apportioned.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepJeffries?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@RepJeffries<\/a> \u201cOur message to Florida Republicans is F around and find out. If they go down the road of a DeSantis \u2018dummymander\u2019, the Florida Republicans are going to find themselves in the same situation as Texas Republicans.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3zFoRXRLvD\">pic.twitter.com\/3zFoRXRLvD<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CSPAN (@cspan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cspan\/status\/2046977973572587881?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">April 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Florida has 20 Republicans and eight Democrats in its House delegation. It last redistricted in 2022 under DeSantis.\n<\/p>\n<p>House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries,\u00a0D-N.Y., who campaigned for the Virginia ballot measure, said after the Democrat victory that any retaliatory redistricting attempt in Florida would stretch Republicans\u2019 voters too thin and boost Democrats\u2019 chances.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf\u00a0Florida Republicans\u00a0proceed with this illegal scheme, they will only create more prime pick-up opportunities for Democrats,\u201d Jeffries\u00a0said,\u00a0vowing to \u201caggressively target\u201d Republican incumbents.\n<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis fired back at Jeffries\u2019 threats to target Florida seats in a press conference on Wednesday, saying, \u201cPlease, be my guest. I will pay for you to come down to Florida to campaign. I\u2019ll put you up in the Florida governor\u2019s mansion.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Congressman Jeffries \u2014 come on down to Florida and make our day. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3yzk9R4vc5\">pic.twitter.com\/3yzk9R4vc5<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Team DeSantis (@TeamDeSantis) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TeamDeSantis\/status\/2047030270637871151?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">April 22, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cThere\u2019s nothing that could be better for Republicans in Florida than to see Jeffries \u2026 everywhere around this state. Voters will not like what they see.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>A potential obstacle to pro-Republican redistricting in Florida is a state constitutional amendment blocking redistricting \u201cwith the intent to favor or disfavor a political party or incumbent.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<h4>How are you praying about the nationwide redistricting battle?
