The Virginia Supreme Court denied a request by the state attorney general to strike a lower court\u2019s ruling that blocked the certification of the state\u2019s redistricting referendum outcome until the legal process concludes.\n<\/p>\n

Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones filed the request on April 24 after Tazewell Circuit Court Judge Jack Hurley ruled April 22 that the state\u2019s referendum, approved the day before by 51 percent to 49 percent of voters, was invalid.\n<\/p>\n

The challengers said the referendum was rushed into the election cycle too late and didn\u2019t meet the constitution\u2019s rules, invalidating it.\n<\/p>\n

The legal battle unfolding before the Virginia Supreme Court<\/span><\/span> centers on whether proper constitutional procedures were followed in placing this referendum before voters. At stake is not just one state\u2019s congressional map, but the integrity of the process itself. If rules governing timing and transparency were bypassed, it raises serious concerns about how laws are enacted and how voters are informed.\n<\/p>\n
