Howvever, the special session to redistrict the state is contingent on the U.S. Supreme Court lifting a key injunction.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0DETAIL:\u00a0On Friday, Ivey announced that she is summoning the Alabama legislature to redraw the state\u2019s congressional map. The session to redistrict the state is scheduled for Monday next week. However, the session is\u00a0<strong>dependent on the Supreme Court lifting an injunction<\/strong>\u00a0tied to the\u00a0<em>Allen v. Milligan<\/em>\u00a0case. That case initially forced Alabama to create additional racially gerrymandered black-majority districts. Steve Marshall (R), Attorney General of Alabama,<strong>\u00a0filed an emergency appeal<\/strong>\u00a0asking justices to lift the<em>\u00a0Allen v. Milligan<\/em>\u00a0injunction lifted, the state would be allowed to\u00a0<strong>eliminate racially gerrymandered majority-minority districts<\/strong>, likely costing the Democrats representation in the U.S. House of Representatives in the November midterms.
